Definitely agree with previous comments by Rich H & Stormcrow. When I run my Learn 2 Play TOR events, I use stuff from Heart of the Wild and pictures googled from the web to give players a visual aid to the lands they are travelling through, because (as per an earlier thread) many roleplay in Middle-earth to experience the setting - so one of the LM's most important jobs is to make the setting come alive for the players.

This supplement greatly aids the LM in trying to make Middle-earth 'feel real' for the players

Just got the PDFs... the maps appear to be slightly lower resolution than prior PDF maps - about 1/4 the resolution. Disappointing.

The resolution of the maps in the PDF edition of Journeys and Maps was a deliberate decision, and we flag it up on the Drivethru/RPGnow page. Which of course you may not have read if you got the PDFs free as part of a pre-order.

Where maps appear as supporting material in other supplements - take for example Rivendell - we have endeavoured to make them as high resolution as we can. Supplying those at pretty much any size won't compete with sales of the physical supplement.

Because the maps in Journeys and Maps form a majority component of the supplement, we have scaled the PDF versions for on-screen usage. And they work very well for that purpose. However they aren't suited to commercial third-party printing. I'll be completely transparent - we want you to buy the physical maps from us, rather than us providing material that copy shops can profit from.

If there is a demonstrable problem using screen-resolution maps as part of the PDF product we'll certainly look into addressing it. The size of maps supplied worked well in our tests, but if there are needs we've overlooked we can revisit the files.

I think even as they are, the PDfs should print well at A3 size. This should be enough for player / LM working maps, with the official A2 maps for the pristine copy.

zooming in to the level where i can read the text on the rohan map, the underlying images were badly pixellated... distractingly so. definitely not useful. Definitely going to get a 1 star.

I print maps for my own use on my own laser printer, often in closeup, and these aren't good enough for that, either. The pixellation was noticeable at 100% on screen.

I don't see much pixellation at 100%. But I have a problem that there is white boxes around some few of the region names. This seems to be the fact no matter what pdf viewer I use. Surly it's not supposed t be like this?

Hmm that's interesting - I get this on Preview (which is... of dubious provenance, so I tend to ignore what it displays), but I can't replicate it in Acrobat. Are you seeing it in Acrobat?

We'll take another look at what's causing that.

Well despite the definite one star review, as I said, we'll take another look at the resolution and see if we think it's viable for on-screen use. I'll pay especial attention to the Rohan map. Perhaps there's some extra issue on that one we've overlooked.

Yes this was a screen capture from when I open it directly in Acrobat Reader DC 15. My other pdf programs show it too. But strangely enough it seem to happen to a bit different names/places in each program.
