Re: Upcoming One Ring Releases Updated
Dear Jon,
Could you please give us a short update regarding the Adventurer’s Companion? Is it days, weeks or months? I know you will write something about eyes and websites, but I thought you could give us maybe a small hint.
Thank you,
Hiro

Can anyone help with information?
How 'official' is the image that is available on http://www.coolstuffinc.com/p/215346 regarding the adventurer's companion?
(Or have I just been my usual unobservant self and missed a thread where the artwork was introduced?)
The picture has a member of Rohan in the party, but no horse. But the man of Gondor as well....

I've seen that cover image before, so I'm sure that it is accurate to the product.Dunheved wrote:Can anyone help with information?

The group is at the top of a hill or mountain. I'm sure that the horse belonging to the Man of Rohan is somewhere below!

Anyone want to take a stab at some of the new cultural backgrounds and/or virtues in the Adventurer's Companion?
For Man of Gondor, I am thinking something along the lines of A Swan Knight of Dol Amorth or Guard of the Citadel of Minas Tirith for a virtue. For backgrounds, maybe a sailor, soldier, lore master, or messenger type will be available.
For a Man of Bree, maybe a virtue of " See Through a Brick Wall in Time". Perhaps a background of working at the Prancing Pony or Friendly to Rangers.

I've been heavily involved in developing a home-brewed look at Western Eriador, the Blue Mountains and Lindon, with an emphasis on the Blue Mountains. I have tried to avoid speculating too much on content that would deal directly with the Adventurer's Companion beyond making some guesses about the Halls of Thorin and their status after the restoration of Erebor. Still, I could take a stab at possible Backgrounds for the Dwarves of the Blue Mountains:Southron Loremaster wrote:Anyone want to take a stab at some of the new cultural backgrounds and/or virtues in the Adventurer's Companion?
1 - Slow to Forget
Your family history tells you that your kin were betrayed long-ago by the Elf-king of Doriath, cheated out of proper payment for their labour. They slew the King, took the jewels that they were hired to refashion, and sacked the city for good measure. However, the reprisals of the Elves were brutal. Never trust an Elf!
2 - They Who Never Left
Your folk have dwelt in the Blue Mountains for time immemorial. When the survivors of drowned Nogrod and Belegost abandoned their ruined cities to start new lives in Khazad-dûm, your kin stayed, either restoring their old homes or founding new settlements in the southern range. No one, not even the Elves of Lindon, knows these mountains better than you and your folk.
3 - Good Neighbor
Your kin have always maintained good relations with the peoples dwelling around them: delving great works for the Elves of Doriath and fighting valiantly against the forces of Darkness in the wars of the First Age. Much of what your folk craft today is used by the Elves of the Grey Havens in the construction of their White Ships. Tools and implements of iron and steel are sold or traded to the Hobbits of the Shire or the folk of Bree-land. You are friends to all--for the right price.
4 - Master Craftsman
Your people are among the finest metalworkers who have ever lived. Of old, they were master armourers, the first to invent chain mail, and famous for their battle-masks and helms. When their ancient city of Belegost was ruined, your ancestors enriched the fortunes of Khazad-dûm, returning to the Blue Mountains after the waking of Durin's Bane forced the evacuation of Moria. You have immersed yourself in the craft of your ancestors and, with luck, perhaps you can rediscover their secrets.

Firstly, greetings my fellow Western New Yorker. I am originally from Buffalo myself, though my step father is from Lackawanna.
With that out of the way, those are some very impressive write ups.
In your home brew of western Eriador do you have any Dunedain living at or around Lindon?

Greetings. Lackawanna is where we live now, but my wife and I were both born in Medina, NY, and I was raised mainly in Albion.Southron Loremaster wrote:Firstly, greetings my fellow Western New Yorker. I am originally from Buffalo myself, though my step father is from Lackawanna.

No, I don't have Dúnedain living close to Lindon, though some would be regular visitors to the Grey Havens and Lord Círdan. I have surmised that some displaced folk of Arthedain might have started homesteads along the Lune between the river and the Blue Mountains. Other Men of Eriador might hunt or trap in the region, plying the rivers and streams. I even imagined a trading post becoming established on the west bank of the Lune where another river feeds into it from the Twilight Hills. Now it looks as though such folk could barter for iron and steel tools and implements at the Halls of the Dwarves at the source of the Lesser Lune.
You can find my write-ups for Western Eriador and the rest of that region in the House Rules forums.
