I am starting a regular Learn 2 Play The One Ring event fortnightly, based on the success of my event at Conquest:
When: Friday 15th April 10am to 2pm
Where: Progamers - www.progamers.com.au, Shop 15/222 Caroline Springs Boulevard, Caroline Springs (Melbourne)
See their website or facebook page for more!
Hopefully I get at least two players who can commit to a regular campaign!
Why this time? This is the only FLGS that opens that early!!

I think you'd be more successful advertising the games on more general RPG interest sites (for example, Gamer Gatherings on RPG.net) and locally via websites (Meetup, local news/interest sites/gamestore websites/etc).
Good luck in any case!

*Bump*
Have changed the venue for this to the Good Games store, www.goodgames.com.au, in Lonsdale Street in the heart of the city of Melbourne (not far from Melbourne Central train station).
First session will be on Friday 29th July, from 10am (Eastern Standard time)!
Let's hope I get some players this time!!

If there's a Dungeons and Dragon's Meetup in your area you could try posting there.

Hi Robin,
If there is a shortage of people in Melbourne playing TOR then a good way to go is to promote at the local gaming stores with a little poster and your contact details about four weeks before you plan to host it, have pre-made characters and an adventure that you can play in 3-4 hours. Going through the character generation process is a time sink for an introduction.
The Melbourne Boardgamer and RPG Group meet up link is here. I posted in the Adelaide one but have since found about 10 people that are interested in TOR, of which I can accommodate only half that number. I have been lucky with people that want to play.
Another thing I would do is ask for people register for it via a service like Eventbrite. I do this for most of the university or professional events that I host so I know the numbers and can cater accordingly. I also get contact details during the registration process should I need to send out a message etc. Creating an event is free so it costs you nothing and it will email guests the relevant information and a ticket to your event ... and a reminder for it will be sent out as well!
I wish you luck!
Cheers,
Kurt

Thanks for the advice, I have already posted the event on Meetup, but didn't know about Eventbrite so will try it out!
