I suspect I'm being a bit thick here: but there is no real reason for a Great Bat to use Seize Victim if it is the last (or only) adversary facing even a single PC is there?

page 249 TOR Revised only one Weapon Skill Bite; and Page 234 'seizing creature cannot use its main weapon while seizing victim' and Great Bats have no secondary weapon.

I agree it doesn't make sense if it is the only enemy combatant left. I had my group outnumbered by a group of them them this week though and it was very useful to have one great bat bewilder and seize a player while another one attacked.

Thank you Wb: its a relief when you haven't missed something you thought was there.

If I have to LM a Bat trap I'll make sure I get the Seizing in early!

That depends; can the Great Bat carry its victim to a great height and then drop it? Probably not; from The Hobbit we have this:

Soon actual darkness was coming into a stormy sky; while still the great bats swirled about the heads and ears of elves and men, or fastened vampire-like on the stricken.

There is nothing about bats hauling their victims aloft.

While they might be used on their own, usually Great Bats are used as a supplement for Orcs and Wargs attacks. They act as a nuisance for the heroes, while the Orcs and Wargs do the actual killing.
In fact, I would say that even the Size Victim does not represent so much a bat with his jaws closed on a companion, as the hindrance produced by its wings flapping over his head, or a swarm of them hindering his view (as Bewilder does).

The core book emphasizes that, in my opinion:

when roused, they fly in huge swarms, heralding the coming of an
Orc-host by forming a dark cloud above its ranks.

Unusually large bats, whose taste for blood often leads
them to follow when Orcs and Wargs go on raids or to
war.

Bewilder
...still the great bats swirled about the heads and ears

My assumption is that the Bat has used Seize Victim to seize an opponent with its hind claws and is now hindering its victim.
