I have a Barding in my game who got a similar magical shield in a roll. He is very hard to hit and does tank in defensive in most combat situations. He has saved a few characters by taking the hit for them, but it eats into his hope pool and forces him to make difficult decisions. He usually ends up the least battered in a combat, but may also spend the most hope.
I will say that the fight with the great bats last week was probably toughest on him since his shield was practically useless once they bewildered him. It also has a curse of blindness on it when in the presence of the undead, so until he finds a way to break the curse, in some situations he can actually be quite hindered by it.
Excessive parry
Re: Excessive parry
One thing in particular in my player is that he actually stays in the Forward stance, receiving most of the attacks, but not getting hit. But I agree he would be more useful protecting in the DefensiveWbweather wrote:I have a Barding in my game who got a similar magical shield in a roll. Re: Excessive parry
Punish him for abusing the rules!
Nah, zedturtle's right. Let Captain Mirkwood have his awesome. Remember there are foes who he won't be able to beat; use'em when appropriate. And if it starts to be a problem, talk to the player about it. We're all reasonable adults, and the goal is for everyone to have fun.

Re: Excessive parry
Yeah, that's definitely the best solution. Thank you! Soon they will face the Gibbet King, so he's going to have a hard time on the Bewilder abilitythorr-kan wrote:Punish him for abusing the rules!

Re: Excessive parry
id give another item, not focusing on parry. What id do is to make the character have a powerful bonus, on somethinng else he wasnt so good at, before finding the item.
Re: Excessive parry
To have one thing one is GREAT on, in this system, is usually a matter of diminishing returns. Id rather be good at 2 things than very good in one.
Re: Excessive parry
Yeah, that's a good point! I will put it in practice with the other treasures, although with Captain Mirkwood I will keep as it is, following the suggestions in this post.Feanor wrote:To have one thing one is GREAT on, in this system, is usually a matter of diminishing returns.
