I've run a long plot with the Lost Tower too. After a number of interesting encounters and finding themselves unexpectedly on the same side as the Gundabad orcs against a Nazgul (Angburn, the new king in Gundabad, doesn't fancy bowing to a Nazgul), they have discovered that the Lost Tower is currently the refuge/home of the mysterious Elven harper Durlinn, (the dark singer) who has given them a hint and a clue at various points as he travels the Anduin, never far from the music of the river. They have now worked out that the Elven minstrel is none other than Maglor, still wandering Arda according to his curse.

I use it as the lair of a Necromancer from the East, sent from Dol Guldur to make the Hill-men fall back in line. I'm writing an adventure to be published in Another Minds webzine at some point.
