So here is a weird situation. I am about to go on a vacation, so I did my best to end the current adventure in the campaign I am running. It was Saving the Maiden. So one of the last things said as we were ending for the night was when the Woodelf player mentions that he specifically brings up that he saw the lamp to Thranduil. So I ended with the elfking displaying his fury.
But now that I think about it, that might make things..odd. I can just run "Anger" early, but how long could I practically put off "The Theft..." I had planned on running that further in the campaign.
Essentially, I was wondering how anyone else dealt with it. I am sure I can wing it, but seeing how others did things always gives me ideas.
Anger of the Elvenking early - Spoilers
Re: Anger of the Elvenking early - Spoilers
Follow your players is probably the best advice I can give. Let your plan/ideas for the campaign be flexible to your player's actions. It makes more narrative sense and it gives your players agency in the world. We're dealing with the Anger of the Elvenking now, much earlier than I anticipated/planned. I actually used it as part of the Year's End Narration and they loved it. One of them even tried a player-hero intervention.
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better.

Re: Anger of the Elvenking early - Spoilers
Foreshadowment is important. In tale of years, mention the harshness of elven diplomats, their lack of patience toward the woodsmen and even cutting off trade of some supplies. There's a cold war before fury unfolds.
