Erebor - The Lonely Mountain Updated version
Re: Erebor - The Lonely Mountain Updated version
I am awaiting my next check to purchase Erebor. Could anyone elaborate on the Dragon creation rules? How far into detail does it go? Do they have various types of dragons?

You can pick the age of the dragon, the type, and various powers (there's a big list, with options for customization). It's a significant chapter in the book.Bran wrote:I am awaiting my next check to purchase Erebor. Could anyone elaborate on the Dragon creation rules? How far into detail does it go? Jacob Rodgers, occasional nitwit.

Excellent. That chapter alone excites me the most, though I plan to get great mileage out of the Erebor and Dale environs itself. The Dwarf of the Lonely Mountain player will have an excellent sourcebook to bulk his character with, and I am sure one of the other players will be playing as a Barding. Can't wait.
Re: Erebor - The Lonely Mountain Updated version
On page 67, when describing the town of Ironthorpe, its fall due to Smaug's Desolation, and how the dwarves of the Iron Hills had to look for other sources of food, the text says:
"With Erebor gone and Ironthorpe’s
bounty reduced to subsistence, Grór’s
people had to find new sources of food
and new customers for their goods."
It seems clear that "Grór's people" refers to the dwarves of the Iron Hill. But nowhere is an LM character named Grór to be seen. In fact, it should be Dáin II's people, as they are talking of the time before the march to Erebor.
Another interpretation would be that Grór is considered one of the Fathers of the Dwarves, the Father of the main population inhabiting the Iron Hills. But that's also nowhere to be seen, AFAIK.
Does anybody know who this Grór is (if it's not a mistake in the book) and where to find information about him?
EDIT: Ok, found it on the Tolkien Gateway:

Basically, the founder of the Iron Hills.

But does C7 explain this somewhere in the book?Young Grór however traveled east, to the Iron Hills, where he founded a realm of his own becoming the first Lord of the Iron Hills.[

It's right at the top of p7:
To be fair, 60 pages is a bit long to expect people to remember that! But Grór was Dáin Ironfoot's grandfather, as is shown in the family tree in Appendix A of Lord of the Rings (and perhaps that should have been mentioned in this book too).King Thrór and his followers returned to Erebor, while his
younger brother, Grór and some of their folk, went with
the King’s blessing to the Iron Hills in the east.

Well, probably a reminder in the description of the Iron Hills, the paragraph before, would have been well placed. ![Very Happy :D](images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Slightly OT, but is there anything about the Withered Heath in this book?
Re: Erebor - The Lonely Mountain Updated version
Yes, there's a section on the Grey Mountains, including the Withered Heath. But not that much is said about the Heath itself, as there's not much worth going there for.frodolives wrote:Slightly OT, but is there anything about the Withered Heath in this book?
The final adventure in Tales From Wilderland involves the heroes going to the Grey Mountains, so there's a bit in there too.

Well, being at one time a breeding ground for dragons, there could certainly be some interesting plot seeds there.Earendil wrote:Yes, there's a section on the Grey Mountains, including the Withered Heath.
