... Still a long way to go with the painting but the boring bits are done (ie, glueing and undercoat) so on with the more interesting stuff.

We have the main areas of horns, teeth and claws, tongue and mouth, body/scales, spines/spike, underbelly. So, any suggestions on which bits to paint in which colours?

I think Raenar should have his dorsal side to be deep reds and ruddy browns. His underside should be lighter and weaker tones of the same... he is an old and powerful dragon, with all that entails.

Are you going to make a collar out of green stuff?

He's described in the adventure being greys and silver so I was definitely going to go with those as the body/scales and perhaps washed with a cold blue. How would that look with browns and deep reds on the spines and underbelly? I like the idea of having the contrast (assuming it works) as I want to avoid him just being shades of grey/silver/white. Hmmm... I think a (predominantly) grey body with silver highlights and then brown and red spines and a dirtier underbelly would work - grey, brown, and red. Those contrast nicely, don't they?

Yeah, that sounds like it might work. Guess I should have checked the adventure out before suggesting a colour scheme. Oh well.

It doesn't have to be fancy... just take a thin wire (a bread tie or small paperclip) and coat it with green stuff. Poke a few indentions in with a suitable object and maybe form a small loop at the top or the bottom of the collar. I'd say it's certainly worth a try.

Sure. I've not started painting yet though, so will post more when I do!

Okay... So, this little project was started quite some time ago although I knew I didn't need the figure for some time as my campaign was some way off the climax of Tales from Wilderland. The photos so far in this thread showed the undercoat, here:

Now, we're a little close to the final adventure, so needs must and all that... I spent the best part of Monday evening beavering away to finish the 'miniature' above. Here's the blighter sat on my bookshelf:







Hubba, hubba! What a beast! I'm very happy with the results. Took lots of layering of greys and grey-blues to build up the depth of colour but I think it was worth it.

Will post some further pics, with player character miniatures, in a bit.
