are we waiting for other cultures

Post by pridedog » Thu Jul 14, 2016 11:44 pm

My guest is we are waiting on more culture books before getting the long forgotten Adventures Compaion. I hope this is the case unless it is basically a reprint of the cultures and what not we already have. by the way loving the game.

Why do you think that?

The Adventurer's Companion has been much-delayed, but as far as I know it's not been forgotten.

According to the upcoming releases page from not long ago, it contains:
new Heroic Cultures including Bree-folk, Riders of Rohan, Dwarves of the Blue Mountain, the Elves of Lorien and People of Gondor
and the reason the Riders of Rohan are listed there is because it was originally intended to come out before Horse-Lords of Rohan. I wouldn't be surprised if they're not in the final version.

Anyway, of the releases listed on that page, the only other one not to have come out in PDF yet is Oaths of the Riddermark. I guess the other cultures from the Adventurer's Companion are also intended to be included in future supplements, but I see no reason to suppose that those supplements will come out first: after all, that wasn't the original intention with Horse-Lords.

If the Riders of Rohan are omitted from the Adventurer's Companion then what Heroic Culture, if any, replace it? I would suggest Folk of Dorwinion or Snowmen of Forochel.

Suggestions?

Now that would be a challenge!

Very well, you have chosen death.

I did appreciate how in Horse-lords we get our nose tweaked a little bit about Woses, but never see them 'on-screen'.

Another: High Elves of the Grey Havens (Lindon?). On the other hand, what Jon Hodgson posted back in April was:
Adventurers Companion collects all cultures published outside of the core rules.
So, potentially, the additional cultures given in the product description plus: the Men of the Lake; Riders of Rohan; Rangers of the North; High Elves of Rivendell; the Dunlendings; Dwarves of the Iron Hills; and Dwarves of the Grey Mountains (and Wild Hobbits of the Anduin)? I suspect that the cultures discussed are actually limited to the ones included in the product description, with the possible swap-out for the Riders of Rohan. I suspect that People of Gondor is very general, along the lines of Bree-folk which might be able to represent any of the common Mannish people of Eriador.

Were Corsairs of Umbar not intended for the Journeys & Maps? Or was that a dream I had?

I can't find anywhere on C7's website where the Corsairs of Umbar were ever listed as an Heroic Culture to be included in Journeys & Maps. The only such reference I can find is in an old solicitation from Game Trader magazine. Maybe they were deemed too hostile to be presented as an Heroic Culture.

Out of scope.
Nothing of Worth.
