I disagree: it was because of "Deadly Archery"
But regarding armour and house-rules, the one I like best is:
*Reduce total damage of each attack by X.
For example, I used Armor Dice -2: Leather armours don't get a Dmg reduction, a 3d armor gets 1 point, a 5d armor gets 3 points. If an adversary rolls an extraordinary success, only the total damage gets reduced.
AND
*Increase the TN for Movement skills (Athletism, Travel, Stealth) by the same amount.
No more dwarves swimming or climbing trees with a full chainmail, or travelling across the Heart of Mirkwood fully equipped without gaining a single point of Fatigue. Or metal armored ninjas.
The total balance of the benefits/penalties of chain armour was more or less equal, but a bit more realistic.
I must say that, in the end, I dumped this house-rule because we sometimes forgot to reduce the damage/increase the TNs and it became more a nuisance to remember it than an increase in fun.
