More information on "Adventures in Middle-earth"
Re: More information on "Adventures in Middle-earth"
I'm going to be real here. While I am a snob about some things ever since I picked up a roleplaying game back in 1981 I wanted middle earth, it was my first sensibility of a setting and my only fully realized vision of fantasy at age 10. I think it's less about which game is better and more about the fact that most people my age (could be older or younger, this is off the cuff) have been waiting most of their life for D&D to officially meet Tolkien. It doesn't really matter if the game is not as good as TOR, I'll go back to TOR in that case. It's actually happening is the real event!

I think it could be one of the biggest RPG releases in years. C7 have captured the ME mythos with TOR and now they get to show the D&D community what they can do.

I would have traded body parts to be part of the design team.

But back on topic, it would be neat if they found a way to use the TOR dice for this game and not just as regular dice but incorporating the special symbols.

TOR dice mechanics are my favorite of any RPG I've played. But...with the goal of trying to appeal to D&D players I think the fewer actual mechanics they change (or introduce) the better.fjw70 wrote: But back on topic, it would be neat if they found a way to use the TOR dice for this game and not just as regular dice but incorporating the special symbols.

Silver pieces and below should be the standard currency for a Third Age Middle-earth setting, seeing as how Bill the Pony was purchased for twelve silver pennies. Gold coins are for Lords, Ladies and merchant-princes. The system introduced in the Lake-town supplement for TOR should be used and expanded upon.Mars77 wrote:Will Adventures in Middle Earth allow for use of D&D monetary system of gold, silver, copper pieces etc? Guess what I am getting at will the Middle-earth appropriate arms and armor have prices. Thanks

Yeah, I agree with this. Even if multiple coin types are used, a single gold coin should represent a lot of money. In Horse-lords a pack horse is 15s and a Warhorse is 6g. So carrying around 6g would be like carrying around the cash to buy a Porsche.Otaku-sempai wrote:Silver pieces and below should be the standard currency for a Third Age Middle-earth setting, seeing as how Bill the Pony was purchased for twelve silver pennies. Considering the cover shows the death of Smaug and Gandalf in possession of Glamdring, I would say yes, it covers the same time period between The Hobbit and LotR as TOR does. That is what C7's license covers, after all.Beran wrote:Not that this is of major concern to me, but is this RPG going to be set in the era as TOR?
And honestly, I am not sure anyone even has the rights to publish material for anything set before The Hobbit or after LotR after Iron Crown Enterprises lost their license.

I am curious as to which cultures and which classes there may be.
Would the larger audience be patient enough to wait for Breelander or a Gondorian?

Considering that we do have supplements for TOR, published and forthcoming, that deal with Rohan, Fangorn and Gondor, and also includes such Loremaster characters as Saruman, Aragorn, Elladan and Elrohir, I think it is safe to guess that Cubicle 7's license also includes The Lord of the Rings and probably the Appendices. The Appendices material does suggest a few possibilities. The entire Third Age and a fair amount of the Second Age might be available to the game designers.Enevhar Aldarion wrote:Considering the cover shows the death of Smaug and Gandalf in possession of Glamdring, I would say yes, it covers the same time period between The Hobbit and LotR as TOR does.
