Ordered the set! The waiting begins
This is what I love about the OGL version of the game. I know (and like) the basic rules. C7 will tweak it to fit the setting. Also, it is easy to not follow their vision of the game if I don't want to. If I want D&D-like spellcasters then I can use what already exists.Ferretz wrote:You CAN dual-wield in D&D 5th edition, from what I understand, so I see no reason you can't do it in Adventures in Middle Earth... unless C7 put in a sidebar saying "Dual-wielding is strictly not allowed in Middle Earth."
Valarian has made a really nice TOR ruleset on Fantasy Grounds if you haven't stumbled upon it yet.DaviSalles wrote: I would love a official TOR ruleset too, but if it has not been available by now, I don`t think you have the desire to do so.
So, dual-wielding would not have been out of the realm of possibility for roguish character types (Ruffians, Burglars, Spies, etc). However, the average warrior would not do so because they would quickly either become a pincushion or get sliced and diced by the one dude with the longsword & shield and/or hewing spear & shield.Merry stepped forward. 'We have met before,' he said to the leader, 'and I warned you not to come back here. I warn you again: you are standing in the light and you are covered by archers. If you lay a finger on this farmer, or on anyone else, you will be shot at once. Lay down any weapons that you have!'
The leader looked round. He was trapped. But he was not scared, not now with a score of his fellows to back him. He knew too little of hobbits to understand his peril. Foolishly he decided to fight. It would be easy to break
out.
'At 'em lads!' he cried. 'Let 'em have it!'
With a long knife in his left hand and a club in the other he made a rush at the ring, trying to burst out back towards Hobbiton. He aimed a savage blow at Merry who stood in his way. He fell dead with four arrows in him:
That was enough for the others. They gave in. Their weapons were taken from them, and they were roped together, and marched off to an empty hut that they had built themselves, and there they were tied hand and foot, and locked up under guard. The dead leader was dragged off and buried.
He fell dead with four arrows in him
Exactly. Dual-Wielding would be good for narrow street fighting among bravo's like in the Italian City-State period. On a battlefield like those in Lord of the Rings would quickly be dead.Jon Hodgson wrote:He fell dead with four arrows in him
Hmmm . . . not in the best of taste, given the wrenchingly high stakes and emotions surrounding this topic right now? I don't mean to be down on you, and get that the joke is supposed to be lighthearted, but I don't feel like its appropriate to make light of what's happening. At least in a public space like this, where others might take you completely in the wrong way. Hope it's ok to go out on a limb like this.Glorelendil wrote:(Of course, we only have the Hobbits' version of what really happened. Dunlending Lives Matter.)
