My game of The One Ring has been running almost every week for two years now, so we've gone through a lot of time and are approaching the War of the Ring. That means the original characters are well advanced, both in experience and in age. Last session one of them died of old age at the age of 81, having had many adventures and been Woodman Warleader for some years. One of the other players wrote this lament for her in character as Galadhel, her wood-elf friend from the beginning. I'm sharing it with you guys because it is so awesome!
Whose is this barrow, the traveler asks
New-hewn turf laid square on its slopes.
The Lady of Haycombe’s, says a girl from the market
Gone at midwinter, fled with the sun.
My grandmother’s house, says a boy with a flute
Piping shrill from the rocky path
Troll-slayer, wight-breaker, wolf-rescuer
She watches the path against times to come.
Dagmar the Warleader’s, say the folk of Old Ford
The Woodman Warleader, calls out Mountain Hall
They seal their bargains at the base of the barrow:
Honest in trade was the lady life-long.
Dagmar the Valiant’s, say the folk of the Crossing
Whose statue stands in our square today.
She and the Elf-Maid defied the defilers
Flung down the Gibbet King and drove him away.
Dagmar the Wise, say the proud Men of Dale
Chary of speech, but most sage at council.
Dagmar the Smith, say the Dwarves of Erebor
Riddles she brought us, and dragons destroyed.
Whose barrow is that, the Elves murmur in passing
Strewn with bright alfarin like the grave of a king.
From the Golden Wood to Imladris rides the son of Elrond
Silent he bows as he passes the tomb.
Whose barrow is that? I say - I, Galadhel:
Those bones were Dagmar, elf-friend, my friend,
Gone ahead to the West, but she will not wait there.
Ai, Dagmar! A weight on my heart is the Doom of Men.

Would be my greatest hope as loremaster to have such beloved characters by the group.
