Thank you for all these ideas and opinions - quite varied responses!
Amongst the Company is one dwarf of Erebor who as a background has been fighting orcs, goblins and wolves through the Northern Wastes west through the Grey Mountain Narrows then escaping south down the Anduin Vale.
I think that to suggest that the dwarf should get Shadow points for ambushing orcs who appeared ready for battle in Border Lands is a bit stiff.
I might wait to see what they do as the wounded Goblin tries to flee. I think I'll use this as a learning opportunity and warn them that the way they have acted with these Goblins and Orcs might affect them differently if they do the same to men/dwarves/elves/other similar sentient creatures.

Another thing to keep in mind, Winterwolf, is that the LM should usually warn the player(s) before awarding Shadow points for Misdeeds. I throw this out only because the first time this came up in my game, I'd completely forgotten that the rules said:Winterwolf wrote:Thank you for all these ideas and opinions - quite varied responses!

Adventure Summaries for my long-running group (currently playing through The Darkening of Mirkwood/Mirkwood Campaign), and the Tale of Years for a second, lower-level group (in the same campaign).

Thanks for that Majestic - yes, I remembered that last night and after the elf stated the intent of shooting the fleeing goblin in the back, with the dwarf wanting to chase it down and slaughter it - I reminded them about Shadow points, how they work and warned them what would happen if they carried through with their intended actions. The elf lowered her bow but the dwarf tried to catch the goblin anyway however it was too fast and escaped.
The Company heard distant voices and from their position on a knoll spotted a group of travellers below them moving along the track leading from the High Pass towards the Old Ford. Seeing that the group included a mixture of people and beasts of burden, two of the Company ventured down from the ambush point to meet the travellers - who included a family of Hobbits (Dody, Dindy and Agatha Brandybuck and their two sons) heading towards Beorn's territory hoping to set up an Inn there, two men from Bree employed as guards, and two dwarves; old Tholin the trader and a younger warrior out from Erebor, Gimli, son of Glóin.
The dwarf of the Company came down on seeing dwarves and conversations were had - including warnings about ambushes - then the travellers continued onto the Old Ford and the Company headed north towards the Falrock in pursuit of some thieves....

Cool! You'll definitely get a chance to talk about Shadow points more soon enough.
