Magical treasure, especially armour and weapons of quality steel would be amazing to find in the Blue Mountains!

Ran a scenario recently where Dain had sent the party to Thorins Halls in try to invite Lady Dis to the tenth anniversary of the battle of the five armies. They arrived to find that two apprentices were missing. They had been sent to mine the ore for their journeyman piece. One had failed to find anything mining in the hills but had found what looked an old dwarven scroll case made of gold in a rather ill omened river Ascar on the way back. Cue dragon sickness and the apprentice sneaking off to The ruined dwarven city of Nogord.

I'm glad that you liked the idea of having Dis return to the Blue Mountains. Not everyone approves of the notion and I can't blame them. It seemed like a good idea for developing the region more as Tolkien wrote very little about it.
"Far, far below the deepest delvings of the Dwarves, the world is gnawed by nameless things. Even Sauron knows them not. They are older than he."
