The One Thing about The One Ring

So I just wanted to start a thread about what people think is awesome about this game... and I wanted to start with what makes me love the game so much...

I don't think it will ever need a second edition. Perhaps one day a completely new Middle earth RPG will come, but this game is well polished. There have been a few house rules from the designers, and ideas from the player base - But I just love the thought of slowly getting materiel covering more of Tolkiens middle earth over the years... the game can expand in scope without succumbing to rules bloat, and feels so nicely polished that I do not expect a Second edition will ever be on the cards. Which is a beautiful thing to think of for a system... It has somehow managed to be a highly focused niche game, full of theme; the type of game that doesn't do "editions", as it's the idea which matters... while being an epic roleplaying game set in middle earth. And I find all this wonderful.

So what is The One Thing about The One Ring that you love?

Very eloquently put James.

If I have to narrow it down to one over-arching topic, it's how they capture the 'feel' of the books/Middle-earth so accurately & beautifully. IMHO, the superb art work & writing evoke the atmosphere better than any previous RPG.

First, off from the experience of my groups year long monthly campaign I really am not sure about the "capturing the feel" comments I have heard about the game. However, as our Shadowrun GM will not be at our next get together I have offered to run a "pick-up" game (hopefully lead into a campaign in the future) to see if there is anything I missed the first time around as a player.

Now, speaking as just a product the system is extreamly robust, and covers alot detail without a lot of crunch. Also, the art is fabulous. I know that is more then one point, but it is what I like. Also, it a bit of a joy to read which is kind of a breath of fresh air.

For me, it's the Hope-Shadow-Corruption dynamic, with the different shadow-weaknesses tied to the heroic callings (Warden and Lure of Power, for example). It's something I longed a whole life.

More generally, it's the great attention to the sources that created a pretty "unorthodox" game: no real spell-slingers, for example, but with a lot of care for things like travels.

Oh god I can't pick one thing.

I guess elagance of style sums up how I feel about it. (which in away incorporates all the things eveyone has already said).

After player many other games, this one was like a breath of fresh air for me.

I really like the details of the published adventures. I usually don't read flavor text to the group but I have been doing it for these because I think it just fits. The game really does get the feel for the books, and that is a very good thing
