"Official" rules changes.

Post by James Harrison » Wed Dec 11, 2013 9:01 am

So I've I copied an old post on house rules a while back - and was re-reading it today when something caught my eye:
We started our campaign with the RAW (Rules As Written), but then introduced a number of house rules to overcome perceived deficiencies in the Journey rules and a few minor tweaks elsewhere. Once Francesco's "Journeys Revisited" and "Preliminary Rolls" updates were issued we went back to RAW plus these changes (and all the other "official" changes such as large creature wound / weariness).
And I was wondering what "Official" changes had been made outside the Journeys revisited and Preliminary Rolls?

Additionally what is the "large creature wound / weariness" rule? I assume the rule something along the lines of "a creature that has been wounded, or reduced to 0 endurance but not killed is considered weary"

Thanks and God Bless,
j.

PS And has anyone seen / heard from Francesco recently? His Blog has been quiet all year, and I'm just hoping he's fine. :)

The ruling was that a creature with Great Size is considered to be Weary when it reaches zero Endurance. IIRC Francesco made the update in a post that you'll find in the old forums which can be downloaded via a sticky post on this forum.

Mostly there are no 'official' published changes just clarifications and notes concerning one or two things that were missed out during the editing process.

Examples:
The Cultural Blessing of the Elves of Mirkwood should be:
FOLK OF THE DUSK: When an Elf of Mirkwood is inside a forest or under the earth, or it is night, his Attribute bonuses are based on his favoured rating in all rolls involving the use of a Common skill.

This was the intent of the rule from the beginning, but we realized the omission too late, when the books were already at the printers.
-------------------------
There's a rule in the "Journeys" chapter that seems to have been lost during the design process, precisely the one referring to the recovery of increased Fatigue.

As stated earlier, you increase your Fatigue score by a number of points equal to the Encumbrance of your Travelling gear. This increase is applied at the end of the Journey (i.e. at the beginning of the next Episode).
For every prolonged rest you take at a safe place (i.e. not "on the road"), you lose 1 point of Fatigue increase due to failed Travel rolls.
---------------------------
Woodman Fairy Heritage should have Awareness not Search as favoured.
--------------------------
Dwarves add sword to their weapon list.
--------------------------

As far as I'm aware, and I know a friend tweeted him during a game earlier in the year and got a response, he's busy developing not only One Ring material but things like Hobbit Tales and board games.

That is awesome. Thank you very much for putting them all together; and for hearing that all is well with Francesco :)

Hum I think it would be good if your summary post was linked in the resources thread! I've certainly found it very useful.

There used to be a Collected Rulings pdf that someone had put together in the old forums. That's still probably hanging around somewhere and IIRC is nicely formatted with page references etc. A much better thing to tag.

It would be nice to have an official PDF on the downloads page. This question seems to pop up rather frequently.
