Maybe *Aragorn* entered Moria on behalf of *Saruman*...Otaku-sempai wrote:True. I mentioned the others as the only incidents we know about when someone recently entered Moria prior to Balin's attempt to reclaim it--recent being a relative term. Though, come to think of it, Aragorn couldn't have been searching for Gollum at that time. His purpose must have been something else completely different!Jussi Marttila wrote:I myself was thinking about Saruman sending small parties of people into Moria for any scraps of Ring-lore that might have survived the fall of Eregion. Otaku, you know the dates better than anyone else here, so lend me a hand...
Could Aragorn have entered Moria on an exploration duty on behalf of Galadriel and Celeborn?
Pretty sure the Lórien elves would be interested, now and then through the ages, to know what state the Dwarrowdelf was in? Was the Shadow and Flame asleep or active? Were the Orcs increasing and preparing for an attack on the Golden Wood? Surely the Lord and Lady of Lórien would keep a constant eye on the status and activity of the Mines of Moria, beware of a possible attack from there. Aragorn, being the greatest hunter of orcs in Middle-earth, was surely the most reliable scout and informant the elves could get.

Conceivably, but there's no evidence that Aragorn ever returned to Lórien after TA 2980 until he brought the Fellowship there in January of 3019. On the contrary, when Celeborn first addressed the company, he confirmed that it had been thirty-eight years since Aragorn walked in the Golden Wood. He had never visited there before 2980. In any case, Galadriel and Celeborn had their own agents such as Haldir and his brothers who could have investigated for them.Falenthal wrote:Otaku, you know the dates better than anyone else here, so lend me a hand...

Aragorn might have had his own, private reasons for entering Moria or he might have been on a mission for either King Thengel or Ecthelion II.

Re: Adventure's Companion Easter Egg!
I'm playing in a PbP game, and the time frame is AFTER the Fellowship has gone through Moria. I share this story just to relate what it was like going in there, esp. after the Balrog was gone.
Our company was just forced to go through Moria, and it was still quite a dangerous, interesting experience. First, when we got to Redhorn, there was no way over the pass, because the entire mountainside had collapsed from a landslide, and the tunnels of Moria were open. So our company just took one of the opening higher up, hoping to avoid the depths of Moria and find an exit on the Eastern side, also high up.
Unfortunately, our options were limited, we ended up going down, getting attacked by Orcs (no surprise) and triggering a huge amount of water to break through into our tunnel (to get us out of a certain last stand where we were trapped and being attacked).
That water rushed the whole company all the way down basically to the underground lake. We finally found our way back up, and skipping several other things that happened (including finding a Dwarven ring), we came to the Bridge of Khazad-dum...which was no more of course. The Orcs had rigged up a tricky rope bridge, but we made it across, and finally out.
We made it through, but lost a lot of gear, and most of us were down to just a couple points End in the end, too.
