The One Ring online Character Generator and Sheet, updated
Re: The One Ring online Character Generator and Sheet, updat
Azrapse,
I would like to extend a heart-felt 'THANK YOU' for your outstanding work. I have used this tool on numerous occasions and I know all of my six players use it as well (to include uploading their characters to our PbP forum; the export function works very well!).
There is no greater resource I know of to quickly generate/manage both PCs and NPCs. Highly recommended to all.
Cheers,
A grateful LM.

No problem at all. I also only recently started playing with web development and I can totally understand how Javascript code can get messy. :-)azrapse wrote:Hi, Luis.
First, thanks for the compliments! That someone else would willingly want to contribute to some code I wrote is the best compliment one could have. :D
However, the code isn't in any public repository.
Honestly, I wrote it while I was learning web development and, to say it softly, it shows.
I would need to do a good refactor of it. I don't really think you would like to mess with it right now.
Too much jQuery and to little proper software architecture.
Although that is only the client part (that you can inspect already if you check the sources in your browser). The server part isn't so bad.
If I see anything I can improve in the client side I will make sure to send you a patch.

We use this all the time, weekly for just playing with character concepts for spare characters. I can't seem to get the save to work, stuck on the passwords set group names thing.
so we save the big text file to notepad and just cut and paste into load from text.

It should be solved now. Thanks for the bug report!

Hi Azrapse,
first of all I wanted to thanks you for the excellent work. Your generator saved me a ton of work to organize my last campaign.
Given that I had a little request, would it be possible to add the Travelling Gear to the equipment section and/or the options, since the travelling gear does count against the basic Fatigue score it would be nice to have it included.
Thanks again.

I was also coming in here to write:
Can you please add a line on the front for winter gear and summer gear enc 2 and 1, because we are hand editing it each time.
Love these sheets they are the standard for all of my players. they send me the text block after their fellowships, before game via skype and I print them out. Easy to use. The fact that it calcs out enc and everything is just so much win.
Also, is there a way over time to make some kind of an area for Standings? We use different standings for different communities, and we've resorted to listing them in yearly events.
I love these sheets. Just so easy to use.

I'd still like to recommend the fanmade cultures for Dunedain and so on be added. They can be updated to canon when the Rivendell shipment comes out.

Thanks, thanks so much for the nice words. I'm happy to announce that I'm undertaking a major revamp of the program and it will be much easier to mod in most of the requests you are making.
Regarding Woodclaw's and Etarnon's requests about travelling gear:
I guess both of you are requesting something similar, right? Woodclaw wants Summer and Winter Travelling Gear to be options that appear in the popup menu for fast adding to the Gear list. While Etarnon wants an extra gear line for travelling gear, if I'm not mistaken.
Well, I am a little bit confused by both requests. Let me explain:
I'm also putting all the source on a repository in GitHub to allow others to contribute bugfixes and features if they desire so. I will come back with more details when there is something to show.

Well, I am a little bit confused by both requests. Let me explain:
- Adventurer Book, page 76, Travelling Gear, first paragraph:
"Players only take into consideration the Encumbrance rating of their travelling gear when they are using the rules for resolving a Journey."
That is, the encumbrance of travelling gear (1 during summer, 2 during winter) is just used when failing a Travel roll during Travel Phase. And it is used by adding that value to the Fatigue of the character then and only then. I added to the character sheet a convenient cell for just accounting encumbrance gained from travelling, to keep it apart from normal Gear encumbrance. You can edit that cell every time you fail a travel roll, while Gear Encumbrance is filled up automatically by adding together the encumbrance rating of your gear. Both gear encumbrance and travel encumbrance are automatically added together for the Total Encumbrance cell.
So all in all, I think you are misunderstanding the rules about Travelling Gear. Basically, the Travelling Gear doesn't weight anything to the character, except when the character fails a Travel roll during a travel. Then he or she adds the encumbrance of it to his or her Fatigue immediately, and it will not disappear until they properly rest at the end of the trip. - If you, however, are using or willing to use house rules where the travelling gear always contribute its encumbrance to the Gear Encumbrance, then you can use one of the free rows in the Gear section to account it there. They are there under the Shield row, maybe hard to see when there isn't anything recorded on them. Also, remember that you can add as many rows as you wish if the two extra ones aren't enough. Just click on the text area of one of them and select Add New Row.
And also, if you want you can record both Winter and Summer travelling gears at the same time in the sheet, and then quickly toggle between them by unticking or ticking the little checkbox at their left. While one gear or weapon row is unchecked, it is like the character owns it, but isn't carrying it at the moment, so it doesn't add it's encumbrance to the Gear Encumbrance cell.
Like that, you can record all the weapons and other items a character owns, even if they aren't currently bearing them.

Ops it seem that I read the rules on travelling gear wrong. I always assumed that it was added to the basic Fatigue once, just to represent the burden of heavy clothes and backpack. I'll have to re-read that bit of rule later. Thanks for pointing it out.azrapse wrote:Thanks, thanks so much for the nice words. Well, I am a little bit confused by both requests. Let me explain:Regarding Angelalex request of fanmade cultures, the answer is totally yes. The main reason for me to rework the entire program is to make it able to load community-made mods, like more cultures, more virtues and rewards, more weapons and armours, more traits in general, and also alternative layouts for the sheet that might work better in different media, like printed, on screen, on a tablet, etc.
