There is a box of text at the top of p. 128 of The Darkening of Mirkwood that spells out the effects of "The Black Shadow".

Should this be assumed to mean the Black Breath? Black Breath is referenced once in the text, so I'm thinking this is just a mistake, and Black Breath is what was intended.

Or is there something called Black Shadow that I'm missing?

It's just explained under the black breath--couple of paragraphs in. Look at top of second column of text on the page.
