Is the following correct (if not, what is correct)
* a companion's total Shadow rating/score is equal to the sum of their Permanent + Temporary shadow
* Temporary shadow is increased by 1 on failing a Corruption test
* Permanent shadow is increased by the sum of your current Temporary shadow when you suffer a bout of madness while miserable
* Temporary shadow is reduced when you suffer a bout of madness OR Heal Corruption Undertaking
* Permanent shadow is only reduced by the Heal Corruption Undertaing
Clarification on Shadow Rules
Re: Clarification on Shadow Rules
Not quite...
Permanent Shadow is never reduced.
Only Heal Corruption can reduce temporary Shadow.
When a hero has a Bout of Madness their temporary Shadow resets to 0 and their Permanent Shadow goes up by one.
There is a whole chart for the amount of temporary Shadow you might gain by failing a Corruption test and you can also gain temporary Shadow by committing Misdeeds (intentional evil acts).

Hopefully that helps.

Normally, yes. In pages 223-225 of the core book there are some examples of Corruption tests that increase the Shadow score by more than one.PencilBoy99 wrote:* Temporary shadow is increased by 1 on failing a Corruption test
As zedturtle pointed out, temporary Shadow points are reduced to zero and the permanent Shadow is increased by one. From page 226:PencilBoy99 wrote:* Permanent shadow is increased by the sum of your current Temporary shadow when you suffer a bout of madness while miserable
In gaming terms, a player who suffered a bout of madness cancels all the Shadow points he accumulated so far, and replaces them with a single ‘permanent’ Shadow point.

Permanent Shadow cannot be reduced:PencilBoy99 wrote:* Permanent shadow is only reduced by the Heal Corruption Undertaing
Permanent Shadow points may not be removed, but are considered as normal Shadow points for all purposes.
