Bree
Re: Bree
I think a Hobbit-centric, stand-alone Shire product could be a campaign book designed for a Hobbit party in a sort of coming-of-age, discovering the outside world, exploring Burrowdowns, Old Forest, etc. and coming back to Green Dragon Inn with your buddies to drink and share your adventures. A complete book for Hobbit characters, from society to armor and equipments and hobbit lifestyle mixed with a campaign involving Shire.
Of Finarfin's children I am the last. But my heart is still proud. What wrong did the golden house of Finarfin do that I should ask the pardon of the Valar, or be content with an isle in the sea whose native land was Aman the Blessed? Here I am mightier.

Indeed; and there are several locations near to the Shire where adventurous young hobbits might go: Bree (to meet distant relatives or see strangers from strange lands); the Old Forest (as noted); the Barrow-downs (if they are especially foolish or unlucky); the Hills of Evendim (exploration; fishing at Lake Evendim); the Tower Hills (to see the White Towers); the Grey Havens (to see the Sea and to meet Elves).farinal wrote: ↑Mon Mar 13, 2017 7:39 pmI think a Hobbit-centric, stand-alone Shire product could be a campaign book designed for a Hobbit party in a sort of coming-of-age, discovering the outside world, exploring Burrowdowns, Old Forest, etc. and coming back to Green Dragon Inn with your buddies to drink and share your adventures. I'm sure that there would have been at least a few hobbits who practiced hunting, trapping, fishing (as previously mentioned) or birding; some of whom would have tried their luck in the wilder lands surrounding the Shire and Buckland.

Re: Bree
I am sad that Bree is going to cover so little ground, though I get it is not dissimilar to Lake-Town as a hub for adventures and more adventures are always appreciated.
Fingers crossed that there is an upcoming Shire book covering Western Eriador.

Well, Bree is considerably longer than the Lake-town sourcebook so even with the inclusion of three adventures it might cover more ground than you expect. If nothing else, there are the Hills of Evendim to the north (with Annúminas and Nenuial/Lake Evendim) and Minhiriath to the south (with the Greenway and the peninsula of Eryn Vorn). Unfortunately, the ruins of Lond Daer would be on the Enedwaith side of the Greyflood.

I've ran a lot of Pendragon, so I'm not so worried about the PCs completely derailing the timeline. For the most part it's not all that hard to keep things for going haywire. The only real problem is when a player actually tries to disrupt the timeline-usually out of some idea to test if they actually have the freedom to do what they want, to prove that they don't, or who just want to mess with the GM.JoeCrow9 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2017 8:07 pm
Yeah, but most of the other plot specific folks are pretty good at taking care of themselves. As cool a fellow as Bilbo is, he's still a middle-aged hobbit scholar, and the Ring is pretty much designed to be the essence of temptation. I can see why the Cubicle folks might want to de-emphasize that particular option.
Worst case scenario- you let them murder Bilbo, steal the ring, and then they get to deal with everybody of any stature on both sides hunting for them. Loads of fun. I'd probably let them see Sauron win, end the campaign, and ask them how much fun they had. I did that sort on thing once before fro a problem player and it worked wonders for keeping him in check in later games.
Re: Bree
I was LITERALLY just thinking of how great of and idea this would be. C7...you absolutely must do this. Instead of shadow, negative side-effects would be revolve around the shire community's respect (or lack thereof). A few years of campaign could play like a game of Harvest Moon, solving simple Hobbit-ish problems, and could eventually evolve into a more complicated and advanced adventure into the wild.Falenthal wrote: ↑Sat Mar 11, 2017 8:46 pmI'd like The Shire supplement to include an Appendix with simple rules to play TOR with kids (5 to 10 years old), along with a few example adventures:
"The Ghost of Scary"
"Post Office: A package for Mr. Baggins"
"Climb the White Towers. See the Blue Sea"
"The Frogmorton Prince"
"Metal Gear Solid: Mushrooms from Maggot"
