Gondor Campaign

Anyone run a campaign in Gondor yet? Obviously we only have a culture and a map to go with until the supplement that I assume we will one day see arrives. I have been thinking about running a campaign surrounding Aragorn/Thorongil's raid against the Corsairs at Umbar while in the service of Ecthelion. Obviously it'd be a bit more military and combat oriented than the usual TOR game, but it's one of those untold stories I've always wanted to know more about and I think it's great fodder for a tabletop game.

So I thought I would check if anyone had run a campaign in Gondor, and other points east and south. Specifically what sorts of resources you had used for things like Fellowship Phase Undertakings, or if anyone has done a map of Harad. Also, I thought I would put the idea out in case I was missing an important point of lore that would make this a rubbish idea (I tend to try not to break too much from the canon if possible).

Lastly, what cultures other than the Men of Minas Tirith would you make use of. I had considered Riders of Rohan in Gondorian service, but I have a hard time seeing elves and dwarves involved.

You could consider that some elves linger or sometimes travel to the now abandoned port of Edhellond. They could sometimes even be met by the Prince of Dol Amroth, who has elven blood in him, or by his family.

Also, Lórien could send one emissary to Ecthelion's court. Even if he/she doesn't appear in public much, it could be used as a player character that works for Gondor while informing the Golden Wood of Mordor's status and its watch by the gondorian army.

Well, there should be at least one other Heroic Culture to apply to Gondor (Men of Southern Gondor?) with such backgrounds as Knight of Dol Amroth; Merchant Prince of Pelargir; Scion of the Southern Fiefs; etc. Until then your choices for a Gondorian Hero are still a bit limited (though Seaman and Soldier of Gondor do help to fill the gaps).

Actually, Aragorn was known as Thorongil during the time he served under Ecthelion II. Thorondor was a Lord of the Eagles in the First Age; I don't know that Aragorn ever used that name. I agree that you are looking at a human-centric campaign here. There might be Riders of Rohan acting as envoys to Gondor in the service of King Thengel; note that the king does pass away in 2980, the year of Thorongil's raid, but probably after the raid occurs early in the year. You might be able to work in a Dunlending or two, especially using the background Eye of Isengard. And it's entirely possible that a Barding, Lake-man, etc. might have pledged service to Gondor after proving himself/herself in some fashion.

An embarrassing mistake for a Tolkien nerd. Yes, I meant Thorongil. I suppose you could have Northmen from the area around the Mountain travelling as merchants and perhaps some more adventurous caravan guards taking service with the city.
