Corruption Test in Blighted Area
ToR 224 describes Corruption tests for blighted areas. However, I'm not clear on what the TN is and what the outcome is? Is the TN a static 14 or equal to the terrain (e.g., 20 for shadow lands)? Is it 1 corruption point on failure, 1 on sauron and somethign else?
Re: Corruption Test in Blighted Area
Regarding Blighted Places and the outcome of a failed Corruption test, see page 223 of the Core Rulebook. It says, "If the test is failed, the character gains one point of Shadow."PencilBoy99 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 19, 2017 6:28 pmToR 224 describes Corruption tests for blighted areas. At a quick glance, I don't see a hard rule for determining the TN for the Corruption test. I thought it was in the rules but I haven't found it yet. Regardless, I use the TN appropriate for the Region Type. So, if the player-heroes are in Wild Lands the TN would be 16. If they are in Shadow Lands the TN would be 18, and so on. See the Region Table on page 158 of the same book.
Hope that helps!

Re: Corruption Test in Blighted Area
When this came up recently, I opined that the Region Type should be used. At least, that's what I do.

While I also use the TN for the Region Type as a starting point, remember that a Blighted Place is very special (and different!) place in the middle of a region.
For example, Smaug's resting place could call for a much higher TN regarding Corruption tests than the normal 14 for Border Lands.

Re: Corruption Test in Blighted Area
Imo most relevant is the Blighted Lands Table on p223 and the Corruption test guidelines on p145.
As such Terrain Difficulty determines the frequency of Corruption tests. As to the TN: "Most of the time, the Target Number for the roll is 14, but it can be raised or lowered by the Loremaster depending on the severity of the source of corruption."

Re: Corruption Test in Blighted Area
I tend to go with the TN of the appropriate Region as well, but Falenthal makes an excellent point about how even that might sometimes be different.
Adventure Summaries for my long-running group (currently playing through The Darkening of Mirkwood/Mirkwood Campaign), and the Tale of Years for a second, lower-level group (in the same campaign).
Re: Corruption Test in Blighted Area
I also use the local terrain TN, not the default 14.
Much of the game is written assuming the default 14, tho'.

Re: Corruption Test in Blighted Area
In fact, using the different Terrain Difficulties even for Fatigue tests is labeled as an optional rule in the RAW. The "standard" rule for Fatigue tests is to always use a TN14.
