The Adventurer's Companion lists requirements for gaining patronage - for example you need standing 1 with Beornings or Woodmen to gain Radagast as a patron. If the company includes companions from outside that culture, it seems like the only way you can gain a patron is to receive a title from that culture (granting you standing).
Is that accurate? It seems weird, since giving companions specific patrons is a great way for the GM to hook players into the narrative.

Re: How to Gain Patronage Given Standing
It's much easier than that - the rules on pg 126 of the Adventurer's companion states that "at least one member of the company must meet these requirements". So, to gain Radagast as a patron you only need ONE member with Wisdom 3 OR one member who is a Woodman och Beorning with at least standing 1. Requirements that all but the most inexperienced company could fulfil!
