Hi guys,

Just wondering has anyone moved from the original version of TOR to the 5e version?

If so why and how did it work out for you?

Cheers,

Steve

I believe I will be doing so. Most of the game, really (the role-playing and story part) would be the same. But I prefer 5e/AiMe combat, really, and if the Audiences and Journeys play out as well in practice as they do reading them, I think I will prefer them, too.

My group has just become good enough that Encounters are fairly easy for them to breeze through. And they have great enough Travel scores that they rarely have difficulties while travelling (rarely even getting Hazards).

So far we've converted the main characters, and done combat with AiMe, but I haven't actually played out the other two mechanics.

I did the opposite, started an Adventures in Middle Earth 5e game, and after one session dropped it and restarted it with The One Ring.

My group started with The One Ring, and it rubbed them the wrong way. I ended up making a house ruled version of MicroLite, using 5e instead of 3.5 for the One Ring, and we played that for several months and they loved it. I then convinced them to try One Ring again, thinking that they might be ready for it, but they still ended up not liking the system.

We're starting an AiMe campaign when we finish our current D&D5e campaign.

WE did not so much as move from, but did both, then gave up AIME. While AIME is a very good book, its still 5th edition D&D which my group and I hold in very low regard and inferior to 1 Ring in pretty much every way.

No way I could move from this version to 5E. 5E is the best D&D edition ever (IMHO) but the TOR rules are part of my soul when it comes to Middle Earth.

I bought the two pre-order AIME books to support C7 but with my group, they think too much about D&D rules and wouldn't get the Middle Earth feelings that I get playing TOR.

I do understand those concerns. Ones where players look to slay everything and then loot the bodies.

My group is quite a veteran one, and they'll treat the characters, world, and subject matter exactly the same in a game of Adventures in Middle-earth as they would in one of The One Ring.

I've been privileged to observe the Shadow system working its magic upon some players... "You mean if I keep being a murderhobo I'll lose control of my character? Better do things differently!"

But in the end, as long as you're having fun in Middle-earth, it doesn't really matter what you're getting up to in the game.
