We've noticed that our loyal fans of The One Ring Roleplaying Game can get quite upset if we talk too much about Adventures in Middle-earth, so an update on TOR: Bree is coming along very nicely - we're finishing up layout just now, and then we'll start final polishing. Oaths of the Riddermark, the Rohan adventure collection has left editing, and is heading into layout and art direction. The Laughter of Dragons, the Erebor adventure collection is waiting in the wings to head into the editorial spotlight next. We're also working on some secret stuff that we aren't ready to talk about yet. So lots going on behind the scenes, which hopefully we'll soon be sharing with you and your adventuring companies!

I am insanely curious

Could retaking Greydelve and finding a dragon there be a part of this adventure collection?

I imagine that the book (like the Erebor sourcebook itself) will include adventures utilizing the Lonely Mountain, the Grey Mountains, the Iron Hills and other neighboring regions. One might very well involve the Greydelve.

Agreed and that's what I would like/expect. I'd even stretch the area a bit towards the Mount Gundabad Valley: there're lots of interesting places there, described in the Heart of the Wild, that don't appear in the Darkening of Mirkwood.

Regarding the Greydelve, it isn't fully depicted in the Erebor sourcebook: that could mean that it's not going to be a part of the adventures, or that is was left out of Erebor to allow Laughter of Dragons to depict it as needed by the adventures.

We'll see.

Of course, we all know I can't confirm or deny anything until we have approval, and I'm sure like me you'd all rather just get the supplement at that point, but a parallel thought -

While we were working on Oaths of the Riddermark (and hey, long before that too! But Oaths really shone a light) it became really obvious that there's a balance to strike between telling a compelling set of stories and giving players a whirlwind tour of all the best locations in a region for its own sake. Neither are mutually exclusive, but there's a balance to strike.

And don't get me wrong here - I'm very much in favour of including the big locations and characters - I think it's a big part of what a lot of us turn up at the game for. But I'm also very aware that the opportunity to make really strong stories, with our own heroes at their heart, sometimes precludes a comprehensive tour of the region. I think it's a really interesting challenge.

Of course, the other thing is we aren't limited to one adventure supplement per region. But we do want to get you lots of places to play in too. There's so much we could still do with places we've already visited...

Confusticate and bebother all of this suspense!

Well, here's another book I can't wait to read. I guess I'll just start handing you my money.

With Oaths I felt it was an interesting choice to leave Fangorn and Isengard out of the game. As Jon said, they probably wouldn't have mattered much in the overall plot aside from being a sightseeing scene or adventure. Focusing on revisiting the same place or region in different adventures leads, in my experience, to more enjoyment from the players: the NPCs they befriended or bothered in one session return again in another one... and build a living world of consequences and memories of the heroes acts.

After reading Oaths, I have high hopes in Laughter. Oaths is exactly the kind of supplement I love for a game.

I wonder if John’s last sentence is a bit of a hint at what to expect. Might we see adventures featuring Viglund, the Sorceress and Mansbane as part of the Laughter of Dragons? Considering the depth of the DoM campaign, these characters and possibly a few others that i’ve forgotten about were notably absent from the actual adventures. So much still to be done in places already visited. I wonder....

I guess that, at least, he is refering to re-visiting Dale and Lake-town, which already appeared in Tales and Darkening. As for "adventuring places" that will appear in Laughter, and which were already in other published adventures, who knows... Maybe the hoard from the Marsh-dwellers came from a dragon, and heroes need for some reason to go there again to recover a certain object or whatever (as part of a deal with said dragon, or to destroy him, or to bribe him,...).
