Well I think I'm going to play it that you declare at the start, can have a final swing, then you roll to run off at the end of the round.
Anyone who is low on endurance is going to switch to defencive (if they have any brains) this simulates a fighting retreat to me. You mess the Atheletics roll up, your opponent has managed to out flank you, pinned you, blocked you etc.
Seems to make sense.
Escaping Combat
Re: Escaping Combat
I think it's pretty clear at this point that the intent was that a character spends his round "escaping" and not attacking at all. This is the way I've always adjudicated it, as well.
However, if you're inclined to all a "parting shot" as they escape, I recommend the caveat that it MUST be done in Defensive Stance.
(it's illogical to assume otherwise. You can't 'charge' into the fray a la Forward Stance, and retreat at the same time. Meanwhile, using a fully defensive posture and backing up to protect oneself seems the move obvious way to go in conjunction with Escape Rules).
But that's just my opinion. I personally would continue to use the intended "no attack."
My opinion and $1.50 will get you a polish dog and soda at CostCo.
