Men of Minis Tirith Undertakings?
Does anyone have suggestions for undertakings for Men of Minis Tirith (from the Adventurer's companion)?

THINGS TO DO IN MINAS TIRITH
New Fellowship Phase Undertakings
Open Minas Tirith as a Sanctuary
As usual for this sort of thing.
Receive Title: Deputy of the Watch
The hero spends the current Fellowship Phase serving with the City Watch. The hero is afterwards expected upon returning to Minas Tirith to report to the Watch Commander and, if called upon, to carry out any duties or missions assigned to him. The hero is also responsible for reporting to the Watch Commander before departing from the city.
Researching Lore in the Archives of Minas Tirith
This works like Researching Lore in the House of Elrond in Rivendell.
Study in the Houses of Healing
A hero might spend a Fellowship Phase in the Houses of Healing assisting and learning from the healers. At the end of the internship he makes a Healing test to demonstrate what he has learned.
- Failure: Nothing Useful. The hero has not learned anything useful and gains no benefit. If this was your first attempt, you may repeat the Lore test once, but on your next roll treat a 'Gandalf' as if it was an 'Eye'.
- Normal Success: Useful knowledge. During your next Adventure Phase, the next time you make a Healing test you may re-roll one Success die and keep the highest result.
- Great Success: Precious knowledge. You never realized that there was so much to learn! During your next Adventure Phase, the next two times you make a Healing test, you may re-roll one Success die and keep the best result.
- Extraordinary Success: Ancient Lore. Ancient texts in the medical library have imparted to you healing knowledge past down from the healers of ancient Númenor. During your next Adventure Phase, the next two times you make a Healing test, you may re-roll one Success DIe and keep the best result. You also gain 1 Experience point.
- Gandalf and at least one 't': Deep Secrets. From the local folklore and ancient texts you have pieced together healing lore that has been forgotten or dismissed by the present-day healers of Minas Tirith. You understand the proper uses of athelas and whenever employing it you gain a bonus Success die. You recover 1 point of Hope and gain 1 Experience point.
- Failure and an 'Eye': Wasted effort. The healers of Minas Tirith have forgotten much ancient lore and have shown you nothing that you don't already know.

Thanks! And you're welcome.

Could be interesting to split Minas Tirith in some kind of "upper half" and "bottom half". The upper could include the noble part/steward/Citadel Guards.Otaku-sempai wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2017 10:05 pmTHINGS TO DO IN MINAS TIRITH

The lower would be the rest of the city, with the traders, artisans, even the Houses of Healing.
I don't know if it would make real difference in game mechanics, but I guess such a big city deserves a bit more of detail.

I agree in principle, though I don't know that this should affect the undertaking of Open Minas Tirith as a Sanctuary.Falenthal wrote: ↑Thu May 04, 2017 10:45 amCould be interesting to split Minas Tirith in some kind of "upper half" and "bottom half". While this would not be a Fellowship phase undertaking, another thing to do while in Minas Tirith would be to visit the market. What products should be available that would stand out? Suggestions: Fine clothes; healing salves; weapons & armor; jewelry; cosmetics; books; maps; foods, wines & baked goods; exotic animals.
While D&D-style healing potions might not be appropriate for Middle-earth, how about the healing salve introduced in 3e (Tome and Blood)?
A short rest could be required to allow the salve to take effect. The D&D price is given as 50 gp; I might suggest a price of 20s per dose (based on the price of the potion brewed from the white water lily).Healing Salve: Rubbing this stinky green paste into wounds promotes rapid healing. Applying the salve is a full-round action. One dose cures 1d8 points of damage to a living creature.

I'd like to include the thing where you're on patrol w/ Faramir's psedo-rangers. You should get something cool for that.
Also, something about the white tree.
Also, something where you get to hang out at the coast.

Some of this might be covered when we get an official sourcebook for Gondor. But, certainly, one undertaking might be to serve with the Rangers of Ithilien for a season. It would probably require an oath of loyalty to Gondor if you are an outsider.PencilBoy99 wrote: ↑Thu May 04, 2017 3:25 pmI'd like to include the thing where you're on patrol w/ Faramir's psedo-rangers. In the Adventurer's Companion, Guard of the Tower is already a Cultural Virtue for the Men of Minas Tirith. You automatically gain one of the listed abilities (Many Foes; Shield-arm; Sword-arm) and may gain the others as Fellowship phase undertakings with an expenditure of Experience. However, a more-specific Fellowship phase undertaking might be to Serve with the Fountain Guards, the elite of the elite protecting the White Tree in the Court of the Fountain. A benefit might be an additional increase of +1 to your Standing.
Minas Tirith is located a good ways upriver from the Bay of Belfalas. Even though the background of Seaman is available to the Men of Minas Tirith, I'm not sure how to incorporate that into a Fellowship phase Undertaking. Maybe as an Envoy to Pelargir? Patrol the Bay of Belfalas to guard against incursions of pirates from Umbar?

Something related to collecting herbs for the Houses of Healing?
Doing errands in the city, which allows to get Minas Tirith Contacts for the next Adventuring phase?

Re: Men of Minis Tirith Undertakings?
Adapting ideas from the Erebor and Lake-town sourcebooks:
Offer Counsel at the Court of the Steward
Spend time at the White Tower, sitting in council and sharing insight with the Steward and his court. This undertaking may only be selected by a Man of Minas Tirith or a hero with the title of Knight of Gondor with a Standing of 3 or Wisdom of 3, or a hero with a Wisdom of 4 or higher.
By spending the Fellowship phase sitting in council with the Steward and his advisors, the hero earns the admiration of the nobility of Minas Tirith. Their Courtesy skill is considered to be favoured for the next year and their Standing in Minas Tirith counts as being 1 point higher.
Receive Title (Knight of Gondor)
If the deeds of an adventurer have clearly benefited the people of Gondor, the city of Minas Tirith or the interests of its Steward, the Loremaster may declare that the Ruling Steward of Gondor summons him to the Tower of Ecthelion to be awarded the title of Knight of Gondor.
To accept the title the adventurer must spend the Fellowship phase in Minas Tirith and choose the Receive title undertaking. This title invests the hero with honorary citizenship, if not already a citizen of Gondor. The title is not transferable and may be revoked at any time should the recipient act in a way considered contrary to the interests of Gondor or the ruling steward, or should otherwise prove unworthy.
Gain the benefits of the Folk-lore speciality during the next Adventuring phase. If a character already has the Folk-lore speciality then they may gain the benefits of a single trait invocation (e.g. they could automatically succeed at a roll and gain an Advancement point).

- The Standing of the adventurer now also measures his repute in the city of Minas Tirith. The hero may now affect the narration of a Year's end Fellowship phase as if he belongs to the Men of Minas Tirith culture. Additionally, when a companion spends a Fellowship phase in Minas Tirith his score is not reduced, as if he returned home.
- The hero may dwell in a home owned by the city (generally in one of the lower five levels). The characteristics of a house are proportionate to the character's Standard of living.
