I would guess Darkening is somewhere between being sent to the printer and arriving in our hot little hands. No real idea where along that journey it might be.

Pre-orders might start to ship by the end of March, but April feels more likely to me.

When the hardcopy is out, will there be an option to buy it without a PDF so a bit more cheaper? I think HotW has that option.
Of Finarfin's children I am the last. But my heart is still proud. What wrong did the golden house of Finarfin do that I should ask the pardon of the Valar, or be content with an isle in the sea whose native land was Aman the Blessed? Here I am mightier.

The PDFs in our bundles are complementary, so there won't be a cheaper option to buy without PDF.

Can anyone tell me if the dwarf Frar the Beardless plays any role in the Darkening? I was considering getting a story together until the print version of Darkening gets released and reaches to my hands but I don't want to "screw" anything by putting this dwarf and his quest as a storyline.

He does, but it is a small role. In fact, since he is supposed to be bugging Dain II every year, trying to get an army for his quest, you could introduce him now and still use his storyline in DoM. In any case, he's not important, he's just a nice colourful character.

PDFs are fine for what they are but, like e-books, are not satisfying substitutes for a good, solid, real book. Real books don't need batteries. If I drop one, the worst I'm likely to do is to damage the spine; and if the power goes out, I can just light a candle if needed.

Darkening is on its back from the printers, so there's still a little while longer to wait.
