Darkening of Mirkwood Assessment
Re: Darkening of Mirkwood Assessment
A strange sort of problem I have with TOR in general and especially with the material from Heart of the Wild and Darkening of Mirkwood is that they're "too good". As a GM I almost dont want to run them since I'm afraid that many of my players can't handle the themes and moods that the game so excellently focuses on.
The One Ring, in my opinion, is a game for players who really likes the books and films, and cares about the setting. This isn't "kill the orcs and loot their treasure D&D-style".
Again, excellent book. Hopefully this will keep us happy for a while before we start asking for the Rivendell book.

I was afraid of that, at first, but my players were great. However, I feel I'm not able to do the adventures justice. During play, I can't come up with beautiful and meaningful descriptions. I need that stuff about light and shadow more than adventures. Also, the hints about how to play NPCs in Tales were incredibly helpful, compared to other published adventures.Ferretz wrote:As a GM I almost dont want to run them since I'm afraid that many of my players can't handle the themes and moods that the game so excellently focuses on.

Hi Eirik, can I quote your post on the Darkening of Mirkwood page on the C7 website? And if so, how would you like your name to be credited?Ferretz wrote:This book looks to be a treasure hoard of story and campaign material. It's very much in style with the Great Pendragon Campaign, which is a big pluss.
One thing I really like with this is that the characters are cast as the main heroes. Their actions really do affect the outcome of things. In the Great Pendragon Campaign, one thing I didn't like too much was that the characters was more "along for the ride".
It's epic. Looking forward to running it if I find the right group for it.

Thanks to everyone for their kind words. We pass all these along to Sophisticated Games and Middle-earth Enterprises. It's important for them to see our work is well received. Thank you!

If they would only get around to sending me my PDF download link I'd chime in too. I'm very excited to see what is in store for my players.

Thanks Jon. I was just making light of the situation. Thank you all so much for these lovingly created products. I did a 5-part video in depth review of TOR a long time back for my YouTube RPG reviews/discussion channel as part of the YouTube RPG Brigade. I would love to get some reviews up soon for the Laketown sourcebook/GM screen, Tales From Wilderland, Heart of the Wild and The Darkening of Mirkwood.
