Can traits be used to gain an auto-success vs hate powers of adversaries?

Strictly, as the rules are written, no they can't. Specialities and Distinctive Features only apply to Common Skills and not to things like Valour, Wisdom, and weapon skills rolls.

You could play with the idea of allowing a +1 or +2 bonus to things like Fear tests for particularly applicable traits, assuming the player narrated an interesting and personal-to-character reason as to why, but such a ruling wouldn't be part of the RAW.
