Then with that clarified, I'd agree with this; temporary points don't really differentiate evildoers from heroic adventurers that have simply witnessed the evils of the world. I think such reformed characters should have a permanent shadow point and therefore the first shadow trait associated with it.

I also think Wisdom would be a more appropriate bonus rather than Valour. This Wisdom has turned them away from the path a wrongdoing and descent into evil and given them a second chance of redemption and to right past wrongs.

I would agree that one permanent Shadow Point might be appropriate, the character being stained by his misdeeds and carrying that taint. One point of Wisdom might also be appropriate.

The whole thing might also be left as purely narrative background.

From experience in playing with evil characters, having an evil character in a party of mostly good characters can rapidly lead to inter party conflict and disaster for the game. Look what happened to the Fellowship when Boromir tried to take the Ring.
