Fire away! In my opening posts on this thread there are some plastic pre-paints mixed in with those. If they're dry-brushed and based they often come out looking really good to be honest.

I tend to attend Dragonmeet and run games, two years ago it was Laundry, last year TOR, this year it might be World War Cthulhu or another One Ring game. It's a day out and the SO can always shop as it's near decent stores if they are so inclined.

There are some beautifully painted minis on here. Well done!

Bloomin' 'eck Tolwen, that's brought back memories of gaming in Rotherham Public Library in the mid 80s. Chip Butty and pint of lemonade from the bar, the paper miniatures and floorplans from the MERP box set laid out on the table as we run around Cardolan getting into all kinds of trouble. I miss my old characters from those days - Edrahil the Dunedain Ranger and Frendel Furryfoot, Hobbit Scout. Good times.

The dwarves and orcs are very well done, but the heads and faces of the elves and hobbits and some of the men... are more than a bit strange looking. They are almost alien-like.

The facial features like noses and ears are often less pronounced and more like real proportions. This make it more difficult to sculpt these small features of course, and that may be the cause for some of the problems you describe. GW minis for example have more exaggerated proportions that make them more detailed looking (and characters from the movies recognizable). The trade-off are more unrealistic proportions in both body parts and tools or weapons.
But I agree that in some Mithrils, the faces could have gotten some more features...
