Hi all,
Very simple notation question...
When a character gains a point of Permanent Shadow would you write his shadow score as 1/0 or 1/1?
Does his permanent shadow point get counted in as part of his shadow score (for purposes of determining Miserable, etc)?

Page 59 of the LM book states that the number after the slash should be the Permanent Shadow score.

I count it, yes, but I think if you go strictly by the book then you shouldn't.

I'd say you count it for determining Miserable etc., according to RAW. LM Book, p 59:
"Permanent shadow may not be removed, but are considered as normal Shadow points for all purposes".

Good spot, didn't see that!

So I might as well write it as 1/1 then to make it clearer when playing the game?

... I wouldn't. I'd just tell the players to add the two numbers together when determining whether they are Miserable or not.

I think I would write Shadow as Temporary/Permanent and add the two together when required. It should be pretty simple maths, I don't expect Shadow points to grow into two or three digits

Yeah I think I can probably manage that maths … I'm just weighing up the advantages and disadvantages of each way of notating.
My understanding is that Shadow Points are almost entirely used for calculating against Hope for the purposes of being Miserable. Other than that the only time I'm thinking I'll need to differentiate is when people are removing Shadow and then I can remind them not drop below their permanent value.

There are a few other instances when Shadow points are relevant.
The Dreadful Spells ability of a major adversary in Tales from Wilderland uses them as a basis for the power's duration, for example.
