Thanks Jon,
Some of us keep the faith and aren't living on a prayer when it comes to C7 and TOR. We know you'll get there, and yes TOR will always take longer than AiME. Loving all we are getting, from both product lines
Now am I reading too much into this or did everyone drop the ball and miss a massive hint for future stuff?
But writing an epic campaign for Rohan? And one for Erebor? That takes time. But it is happening.
So a "Darkening of Mirkwood" type epic campaign or do you mean the adventure books already mentioned above - Laughter of Dragons/Oaths of the Riddermark?

That kept me wondering, too, but I guess he's talking about the forthcoming products: Oaths and Laughter. Which have been said to have linked adventures, sharing one metaplot.

I think Stormcrow was meaning when it was moving and meeting Gandalf on the bridge, not when it was falling. It can (usually) be silent and then scream when it falls, I see no issue with the two being at odds.
When I read that section I get the vibe of a shadowy, terrifying figure that moves almost in a fluidlike manner; disconcertingly slient, graceful and terrible with dark flames rising from it. Not the stomping, noisy, ugly, horned demon CL20 D&D monster that is so often imagined.

Maybe, though I suspect that Stormcrow is thinking of what Tolkien writes in Letter 210 to Forrest J. Ackerman on the Zimmerman film treatment for
The Lord of the Rings.
20. The Balrog never speaks or makes any vocal sound at all. Above all he does not laugh or sneer. . . . .Z may think that he knows more about Balrogs than I do, but he cannot expect me to agree with him.
As established, the text of
LotR somewhat contradicts Tolkien's above statement, even if it is only because of a single cry.

Yep, that was what I thought too. Although "epic campaign" does seem slightly different from "book of linked adventures"...

No, Rich H has it right. I wasn't even aware of the letter.
I say the Balrog was silent in the same way I might say that Frodo liked to go on walking parties. Sure, by the end of the day he's tired and wants his bed. That doesn't contradict the description. The Balrog was a silent menace, not a mute menace.

I do think it's more terrifying when you can't quite tell what you're up against. Or maybe "horrifying" is the better word.
That said, wings of shadow, designed for fear not flight, and not just a metaphor, appeal to me aesthetically.
