This picture is the reason I'm here. As a woman who LARPs and has done some re-enactment, I love finding pictures of women in sensible armour. I came across this picture while searching for something, tracked it back to Jon's Deviant Art page, found more pictures of women in sensible armour and decided I had to check out this TOR game that the images were from. Now I'm a week away from starting my campaign.

Well that's one for the scrapbook. Thank you, I'm slightly overwrought. That is though, the very essence of what I set out to do with the pieces of TOR art that fell to me.
Anyhoo, to the topic at hand - I could post any number of paintings from this feller, but this one was one I was especially fond of as a kid, and I've gone back to it this week for a little homage.

Agreed.
I've always loved his historical work, but these pix for
MERP, well, they just blow me away.
This one is a great example of his attention to detail & (mostly) getting it right.
I guess that part of the reason his weapons, armour, clothes, etc., capture Middle-earth so beautifully is because of his historical research for a certain other company.
This may be another reason why you're researching all of the pix that you collect is such a good idea & it shows in your work.

For me it was McBride as well, but in this case the epic duel of Eowyn.

Am I looking at a different picture to you? I see 1 elf.
THERE. ARE. FOUR. ELVES.

Ok, I need that one on my wall!! Can I ask where you got it? I love it!

It's Gandalf by John Howe as Evening stated. It was also the cover picture of the Fellowship of the Ring I have read first. Along with the map I have ordered a local place that deals with this kind of stuff to print them on canvas.

While I'm male and I haven't LARPed in a long time, I agree with the sentiment. The occasional fanservice armor might be appreciated, but when every femal character is armored Red Sonja style something is very wrong (yes, Blizzard I'm looking at you).
For me the dealbreaker will be to see a picture of a dwarf in leather armor. I haven't been able to find one in an official product ever. Dwarves are usually in metal armor or naked (Trollsalyer style), no middle ground.

I wanted to make sure I was okay posting this first (I am) but the picture that says it all for me is this one:
I commissioned Jon Hodgson to paint it for me. The characters in the picture are the PCs from my campaign - The Fellowship of the Free. Thogrim, Gilbrannon, Brand, Iwgar, and his hound 'Wolf'.
The picture is a composite of individual character paintings - which I also have, but the above picture is the one I'd pick to sum things up for me.

This was my introduction to Middle Earth. One of my Dad's students gave me a copy of the Hobbit. It was my first actual "grown-up" book that hadn't already been on the family bookshelves.

Very nice painting and surely is a one of a kind. I wish I had the extra money to have a painting done for me
