When you get hit for a non-piercing blow in combat and lose endurance you do NOT get to make a protection test, right? You only get a protection test against a piercing blow, right?

Take this with a grain of salt because I'm also new, but I believe you are correct.

Yes, that is absolutely correct. The only reason for a Protection test is to see whether your armour protected you from a Wound. Endurance damage always occurs on a successful hit; it cannot be prevented.

This is how I thought it worked. Thanks!

You're welcome daddystabz! Hey, I watched your video of TOR a long time ago. Thanks for posting that. I remember you were also trying to find an online group to play with. Did you ever find one?

I just found a bunch of local guys I am going to be running a face-to-face game campaign for so I am re-acclimating myself to the rules. I couldn't quite remember the protection thing but everything else came back to me pretty well. I should have watched my own videos! LOL

Yes, and remember endurance loss due to being hit in combat is not the same as being wounded. I think there a few places in the rules where this should have been spelled out mode clearly. One example is gaining a Hope point if your Fellowship Focus is not Wounded. If this is read as "takes no combat damage" it is almost impossible if the adventure involves any combat and subsequent endurance loss. If it refers to the Wounded condition that is a different and easier to meet criterion.

I don't have the books on hand, but I believe it says "harmed" instead of "wounded". I would include "being reduced to 0 endurance" as being harmed, for example.

I take "Harmed" as being you lose more Endurance in the combat than you can replace with the post-battle recovery.

Since heart scores range from 2 to 7, that leads to everyone picking the archer for their focus. As happened in your game.
