Ringwraith Special Ability vs Reward Plot Immunity

Hello all,

Now that the Nazgul are statted in The Darkening of Mirkwood; is there any official stance on how the Dwimmerlaik Special Ability applies to the plot immunity of player hero Rewards (specifically melee weapons)? Should I simply arrange for a replacement during the next fellowship phase at no additional Valour cost?

Best regards,

Brian

In most cases, I would destroy the weapon and work with the player to replace it over the next Fellowship Phase. Encounters with the Nazgûl should be terrible and lead to permanent damage.

If a reward weapon falls afoul of Dwimmerlaik I am of the opinion that it should be gone at least until the next Fellowship Phase. Nazgul are fearsome opponents indeed. However it is not fair to remove a Reward completely from the game or to make a hero spend Valour for it twice.

This is a situation in which I might allow a player to select a different Reward weapon with the same number of qualities as the lost one as a replacement. Normally I do not think a hero would exchange one such storied weapon for another, but if one was lost striking a blow against the Ringwraiths...

Yeah, kill the weapon and give them a chance to get a replacement in the next Fellowship Phase. Presumably, Merry looted a really awesome sword from Gondor when everyone was away after he lost his first Valour reward at the Battle of the Pellenor.

I think that RPing that case there was an exchange and the sword got exchanged for the Horn of the Mark (something like what Dave suggested above).

Merry's player: Hey, I want a replacement item!
Loremaster: The campaign's nearly over! The Dark Lord's defeated! We're just wrapping everything up. There aren't going to be any more fights, it's all roleplaying now.
Merry's player: I don't care. I want an awesome weapon.
Loremaster: Fine. Theoden gives you a Horn.
Merry: Theoden's dead. You mean Eomer.
Loremaster: Er, yeah. Rohan guy.

----Later----
Loremaster: You arrive in the Shire and it's all corrupt and there are-
Merry: I blow my horn! I blow my horn!
