Roll for Taint on Treasure?

Is there a mechanic you use for determining whether Treasure is tainted or not, or is it automatically tainted depending upon the provenance?

As I understand it, if you're not using the Magical Treasures rules from Rivendell, a treasure is only going to be tainted if you decided when preparing the adventure that is, because of its provenance, its history, or where and how it's found. So it's essentially Loremaster's call, but typically one made while the adventure is being prepared.

If you're using the Magical Treasures roll, part of the process is rolling a Feat die, and an Eye result gives you a tainted magical treasure.
