Ooooo yes it could still hint at a minion operating in the north. A Black Numenorian or an orc genral maybe or perhaps something else... The dark sorcerer could have been reporting to them.

Now for a secret hide out in the Grey Mountains - hmmm that gives me an idea to tie into my other group of characters. Ooooo I like this.

Not all the orcsies answered Bolg's call when he marshalled them to the Battle of the 5 armies...some served a more powerful master.

I like this alot.

Cool! It sounds like you're having a great time with your game.

Since you like the Ered Mithrin & the foothills thereabouts; if you haven't already received The Heart of the Wild, the book contains several potential lairs, including The Greydelve or The Lost Watchtower. One of them might make a suitable stronghold for your story.

A new minor power in good ol' Angmar is always an option. Or the superior migth be a forward outpost of dol guldur, operating out of the Mirkwood mountains.

There is a lot of rich fodder for adventure in this thread. I Amy weave bits of them into my upcoming campaign.
