Is Ormal Noldor, Sindar or Silvan/Nandor?

To some extent its a rather irrelevant question, but what do people think? It seems unlikely Ormal would be a silvan/nandor elf given his focus on crafting - the description of him states "no wood elves are as devoted to the art of crafting as he is". Now this could be interpreted as indicating he is a wood elf, but unusual for his interest in crafting OR that he is not a wood elf, depending on how you read it.
He could be Sindar as a number of Sindar lived amongst the silvan/nandor elves in Mirkwood (Thranduil and Legolas to name two). But I'm not sure the Sindar were particularly known for crafting (other than shipbuilding in the case of the elves of the Grey Havens). It was the Noldor who were obsessed with crafting.
We know Ormal studied under Celebrimbor in Eregion, which might again suggest he is of Noldorin descent.
What do others think? I sense that Irime is Noldor, so maybe other Noldor also lived amongst the elves of Mirkwood?
