38? Seems like a brite of a hobbit to me.
My own offline group (not the one I am running for on roll 20), over a year ago did Marsh bell, with a map I did of the area in Campaign Cartographer, and I used the Mewlips recording from a casette. That roup had 3 women and 3 men as players. One character was entranced by the noise. No one could figure out what was happening.
When the Troll appeared they didn't question it, and just kept shooting bows and charged in. Nor did they question the two dwarves, but felt pity and helped them to safety. A hobbit tried to steal some treasure and got away with a little bit. In the marsh a hazard led a hobbit to fall out of a boat, with a failed swimming roll, also. The dwarf used fellowship to reach in and grab the hobbit, and thus they saw the beauty of the rules system.
I liked it a lot I didn't question it, just ran it, and they liked it.
Now I just ran my 14th session of running this over the three groups, I have been doing my own scenarios since I started running this on Roll 20, 7 Sessions ago.
Liking the game, lucky to have good players.

Re: Discussion on The Marsh-bell
Rolling sixes like hell to keep adding Body to damage, I suppose. Quite a blow. And quite some weapon skill as well if he can roll enough dice to do 38 damage.
Re: Discussion on The Marsh-bell
AFAIK, only the first two sixes add damage.
Re: Discussion on The Marsh-bell
That's correct. For the hobbit to do 38 points of damage in a single blow means they are using house rules or have misunderstood the RAW.Yusei wrote:AFAIK, only the first two sixes add damage.

Re: Discussion on The Marsh-bell
Ah. Our characters are bad enough never to have rolled more than 2 sixes for damage together. Nice to know about a mistake I would have done before it was too late!

Re: Discussion on The Marsh-bell
I rewrote the Marsh Bell to fit in with our current campaign - the missing dwarves were replaced with the lovelorn son of the Lake-town merchant the party work for and I swapped out the troll for a Marsh-Ogre (from the Lake-town book). I've also extended it to encompass their return to Lake-town and some events that result from the son's fate.
So far, so good. The Company are now in the Lair of the Mash-dwellers after two of their number succumbed to the ringing of the bell...

Re: Discussion on The Marsh-bell
Yeah, the thirty eight points was a mistake on our part. The hobbit rolled really well, but not that well. I just didn't catch it in time.
I am sure a few other mistakes were made, but the group had a great time. I'll do a thorough re-reading of the rules before next session.
