I didn't find the answer in the FAQ, so here it is:
Suppose on a Task roll, the result is still below the TN to succeed, even though there is a 6(tengwar) rolled on one of the Success dice. An Attribute bonus is invoked, putting the result equal to or above the TN to succeed. Does this mean that the result is now a Great success, due to the 6(tengwar), or is it still just a success since it would have failed otherwise?
Tasks and Tests question
Re: Tasks and Tests question
Using Hope to change a failed test/task into one that succeeds does not reduce the magnitude of the success so (in your example) it would remain a great success, or an extraordinary one if two or more 6's had been rolled.

Re: Tasks and Tests question
The Tengwars (6's) still count as a higher degree of success. So be spending hope if getting a great success would really help the company. (i.e. A player failed their stealth roll, and you failed with a 6. You can spend hope and succeed and use the tengwar to help them succeed as well.)
Re: Tasks and Tests question
Just to avoid confusion: using great or extraordinary successes to help a comrade with a task or test is a common house rule. There are a couple of instances where the rule book allows players to share successes, but it's not officially something you can do for any roll such as, for instance, Stealth.

Specifically Stealth to attempt an ambush and Awareness to avoid one, is RAW.Stormcrow wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2018 1:35 amJust to avoid confusion: using great or extraordinary successes to help a comrade with a task or test is a common house rule.
