Of Spiders and their Weapons...

Post by Goldrak » Tue Mar 27, 2018 10:08 am

Hello!

Has the spider weapons issue from the revised edition had any official reply?

For those not familiar with it, the slipcase edition included the following note under the Spider Weapons Table:

*If the Ensnare roll is successful and produces a great or extraordinary success, the spider immediately attacks its victim using its sting.

The revised edition leaves this note out in the same table, but in the example of combat given (p. 183), it mentions an Extraordinary success by an Attercop using Ensnare that attacks immediately with its sting.

Therefore, the question remains: In the revised edition was the ability removed from the table and the combat example is incorrect, or the combat example is correct and the table is missing the slipcase note?

While we still wait for a clarification (hint, hint...) how do you, revised edition players, use this ability?

Another thing that had bypassed my reading, was that a poisoned character feels the effect of a poison only after a number of rounds equal to his Body or Heart rating, whichever is higher, this meaning that the poison effect is not immediate but take some rounds to set in. I'm i reading this correctly?

Thanks!

No official word that I know of, but I've always assumed that the note was just left out by accident. I think the asterisk is still there in the table (next to the word "Ensnare") to indicate there's a note underneath, isn't it? If you want an official answer, I'd suggest contacting one of the Cubicle 7 people directly.

Yes, I believe that's right.

Thanks Earendil!

I already sent a message to the one of Cublicle 7 staff and i'm waiting for a reply. Let's hope!

Meanwhile my idea was to know how those who have the revised edition are using the spider ensnare.

Well, as I say, I always assumed the note was left out by accident, so of course I used the slipcase rules for it.

Although I bought the slipcase edition when it came out, I've never run the game using it, because by the time I started running it the hardback rulebook was out. So I bought and mainly used that, with the slipcase acting as a reference. (Actually, I don't think I even noticed the note was missing from the later edition until someone pointed it out!)

Hope that helps.

The way I understand this is that spider-poison has two effects: Wounded status and Paralysis.
I apply Wounded immediatly, while Paralysis needs Body/Heart rounds to kick in. I feel the text is somewhat ambigous here, though.

I'm running through a test battle with spiders (attercops) in prep for running my first TOR game, and I've got a question about spiders weapons.

None of them seem to cause Endurance loss. So, if a hero is poisoned (and, in effect, wounded) and ensnated, what else can a spider do to him? Would a second sting count for 2 wounds and take him out? That seems harsh, since he gets no protection roll.

Because their weapons have no edge or injury, they become rather ambiguous.

Their sting does their Attribute level as damage. It only poisons the target on a called shot (and that would be in addition to normal damage).
