Forum Closing So Goodbye All

Post by Rich H » Fri May 18, 2018 3:04 pm

What with the news that C7 are closing this forum (thanks to the EU and their GDPR rules) I just thought I'd start a thread to say goodbye to you all and to say that I've very much enjoyed sharing our collective joy and enthusiasm for this great game.

It's been a real pleasure discussing all things TOR and Tolkien with you and, to paraphrase a certain Hobbit, I am immensely fond of you all and these few years are too short a time to spend among such excellent and admirable folk!

This is the END. We are going. We are leaving NOW. Well next week anyway. GOOD-BYE and until we meet again, Namárië!

Huh. Well, that's ... disappointing.
Gobsmacked. Not sure what to say really.

So long all. I've enjoyed the discussions.

Is there any more information why? GDPR doesn't stop you having a forum.

No, but it does make it difficult for small companies without a dedicated resource. Dom started a thread announcing it here:

It's that classic EU implementation - doing something for the right reasons but not really thinking through on the impact and costs to smaller businesses.

I shall very much miss the TOR forum. I shall however also look forward to seeing you all elsewhere.

The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it: White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.
It’s been grand, but this is not the end. I’ll be around, in various corners of the internet. :)

Very sad news, indeed. I always keep this forum open in my browser, and keep an eye whenever I sit at the computer. So, so many inspiring conversations have been held here, and so many great people I've got to know from across the world! It feels as if my old playground was being overrun by bulldozers.

But, as someone wiser than me once said, "The Road goes ever on an on...". I'm sure a new place will be found somewhere where we can all sit together again. I don't roam any other english spoken RPG forums (only Boardgamegeek), but I'm sure there must be somewhere we can rest our tired feet. Maybe rpggeek.com? (https://rpggeek.com/forums/family/4395/one-ring)

"Well, it's not the Prancing Poney, but the Forsaken Inn doesn't seem so bad as they said..."

It's extremely sad. This community will only be diluted on other forums, if it exists at all, and don't get me started on things like Facepalm for trying to do such things.

Will miss chewing things over with everyone here, old timers and new; I've met some people on here that have undoubtedly improved me as a GM and my understanding of Tolkien's work as well as doing it in an enjoyable manner. And then there are those that I count as friends - albeit some that I may never have met yet in person.

My gaming life, and perhaps even life as a whole (because it's the things that give us pleasure that are most important when all is said and done), will be made worse by the absence of this forum.

A very sad day.

Yes, goodbye to you all! Hopefully we will still see each other in other places.
Adventure Summaries for my long-running group (currently playing through The Darkening of Mirkwood/Mirkwood Campaign), and the Tale of Years for a second, lower-level group (in the same campaign).
