Weapon ranges way too short?
Re: Weapon ranges way too short?
I guess it depends on your combatant stance like measuring the range although it just depends on your experience because bow is very hard to use than rifles.
Re: Weapon ranges way too short?
Honestly, I'm kind of surprised the ranges are even on there, as they don't really come up in play. Unlike some other games, there's usually not a need to map things out, or figure out a tactical diagram of combat.shizuo wrote:I guess it depends on your combatant stance like measuring the range although it just depends on your experience because bow is very hard to use than rifles.
So I suppose those are in there just to give a general guide to how far one's character can shoot or throw their weapon.
Tale of Years for a second, lower-level group (in the same campaign).
Re: Weapon ranges way too short?
We almost never measure range, so it rarely comes up. But the ranges are a bit short. But this isn't really a big issue in our campaign.

I've yet to see ranges used. Has anybody else?

Nice point. I think that is a fitting end to a good thread.
Well done & Thanks to everyone who had something to say.
Re: Weapon ranges way too short?
Player: "How far away are those goblins we're spying on?"
Loremaster: "About 25 yards. And now one of them looks like he's about to strike one of the prisoners."
Player: "I'll shoot him!"
Loremaster: "You're at long range, so the TN is 18." (+4 complication)
Note that the weapon ranges list distances at which weapons are effective, not at which you can hit something. You can hit a target with a (short) bow at 50 yards, but effectively damaging a target intentionally doesn't resolve with the combat system.
If you had a squad of archers firing as one in a battle, ranges would be greater, but they would fire indirectly, not able to aim for specific targets.
Here's a good Google search on the subject.
