Clarification in healing

Post by Valdur » Sat Mar 22, 2014 11:55 pm

Can someone give me a breakdown of healing when in the wild? I know 30 min after your combat ends you heal your heart score but do you heal anything when you rest? Also does the healing skill help recover more health out of combat?

From Getting Better in the AB:
Player-heroes recover a number of Endurance points for every prolonged rest they enjoy every day (usually, a night’s sleep). The amount of points recovered depends on the current health of the character:
A Wounded hero with an untreated injury recovers one Endurance point.
A Wounded hero with a treated injury recovers two Endurance points.
An uninjured hero recovers two Endurance points, plus a number of points equal to his Heart rating.
Of course, a Wounded character does not heal the wound until he or she recovers all of their Endurance. This means that getting to a safe place might become critical if the company has Wounded and is under the threat of attack.

Yeah but our LM is running the game so that you don't heal when sleeping in the wild. Is that a rule somewhere in the wild?

Loremaster Book wrote:Uncomfortable Lodgings (Guide)
The guide repeatedly makes poor choices regarding where to camp and find a shelter for the night.
The Guide makes a Travel test. On a failure, all companions sleep miserably and are not considered to rest properly for half the length of the journey (they do not recover Endurance).
That's a sample Hazard from the rulebook. While I haven't found anything to support your LM's decision, the above quote could be used to support either of you. You might say that the Hazard implies that unless this hazard is chosen, any night spent outside should count as a prolonged rest (you all are adventurers after all, not soft city folk that need a bed and a roof).

But, a LM might say that the above quote proves that when the going gets truly rough (like going through a Blighted Area) then the company can no longer get the rest they need. I would ask your LM what their intentions are, and if this is a temporary ruling based on where the company is presently travelling or if it's an always thing...

As Zedturtle noted above, there's one specific Journey Hazard that prevents healing while travelling, otherwise it's something that you LM cooked up on his own.

Your campaign's going to be particularly harsh with this rule in place. It's difficult enough that the Wearied state can only be removed after and good night's rest (even when your Endurance is, again, higher than your Fatigue + Encumbrance), never mind not recovering Endurance.
