There was a lot of debate about them and it was proved that epic journeys were mechanically far too easy with the revised rules - eg, failing every fatigue test journeying along the old dwarf road would only result in a small handful of points gained. Is that really representative of such a dangerous and taxing journey? Francesco ended up going back to the original version as his preferred option. To be fair, the Revised ones never replaced the RAW they were just an alternative for some people to use. I'm personally glad that they never replaced the existing RAW.diogonogueira wrote:So, I got the PDF and started reading the revised core book and, to my surprise, the Journey rules are the same as the old books, instead of complying to the Journey Rules Revisited that Francesco did.
Is this on purpose or they discarded the revision (that I thought made a lot of sense)?

This one has some dev input for the very same question: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1915diogonogueira wrote:So, I got the PDF and started reading the revised core book and, to my surprise, the Journey rules are the same as the old books, instead of complying to the Journey Rules Revisited that Francesco did.

Francesco answered Diego direct on the unofficial Facebook page for TOR and told him that the alternative rules didn't work for him so they didn't alter them in the revised set.

Re: The One Ring Roleplaying Game Revised Edition
The one question I have to ask about the Revised Edition is...why wasn't the game done as a single volume in the first place?
Re: The One Ring Roleplaying Game Revised Edition
I, for one, appreciate the player/referee split in game books. It's probably especially useful for people unused to role-playing games, which Cubicle7 was probably expecting, given this is the Tolkien license. I think the slipcase edition is more attractive, but the hardcover is easier to use.
Re: The One Ring Roleplaying Game Revised Edition
I personally like the current editon as well, and really don't see the need for a Revised edition at this time, but it is what it is. I just find it strange that they didn't follow on the same template.
Personally, I feel that if they needed to do a RE then it should have been last in the line of the 2014 release schedule. Particulary as there isn't any system changes and all the books are still/will be compatible.

Copies of the slipcase were running out so it made perfect sense to look at revising and clarifying rules and getting out an updated copy rather than just reprinting a couple of books that were pretty much universally criticised for their lack of organisation (rules spread across both books) which made it a real deal breaker for some people to run. If you preferred the two book format, and the disorganisation in rules that came with that, you really were in the minority. Getting out a revised format means that players that are going to be attracted to the game, especially when Rivendell comes out and we get the options to play Dunedain and high elves, can get a cleaned up edition at the same time as these new products.
Doing it at the end of the 2014 release schedule would be committing commercial suicide as (a) if players could pick up a copy of the slipcase rules then they'd be replaced by the revised edition or (b) if they couldn't get hold of the slipcase, due to a reprint being needed, then customers wouldn't pick up any of the other supplements.

Re: The One Ring Roleplaying Game Revised Edition
Now I did forget about the current run of product running out; so, I can see your arguement there. Personally, I really didn't like the "disorganization" much either myself. However, I found that once the revised index was published it solved the problem quite well.
All-in-all I would have preferred a single volume right from the start, but since C7 lead with the 2 volume set I would be curious why they went single volume for the revised one.

I agree that, commercially, the time was right.Beran wrote:Personally, I feel that if they needed to do a RE then it should have been last in the line of the 2014 release schedule.
But seeing the teasers for the rest of supplements, I agree with Beran that a RE scheduled at the end of the 2014 line could have included all the new rules that are being announced (Dual Wielding, Armor Damage Reduction, Wizard Background, Magic Treasures,....).
It wouldn't surprise me to find a 2nd Edition or Re-Revised Edition planned for 2015.
At the moment, it's ok for me. I *probably* won't buy the Revised Edition yet. The PDF with Amendments and Clarifications serves it's pourpouse perfectly for me. So, everyone can be happy.
